Possible, yes. Advisable, I don't know.

Probably cooker ... but you will need something else to install with.

I think Debian has working alpha, maybe even Redhat.

Stefan van der Eijk (cc'ed) runs cooker on his Alpha (and maintains the
alpha port of cooker). He is away on business till today, so you might
only get a reply early next week.

In the meantime, you can have a look at the state of the alpha port of
cooker here:
http://eijk.homelinux.org/build/cooker/alpha/

Everything in http://eijk.homelinux.org/build/cooker/alpha/OK/ at least
builds, and may even work!

Anyway, Stefan will be able to tell you more. There is also a mailing
list for the alpha port, cooker-axp at
http://www.mandrakelinux.com/en/fdevlists.php3
Archives: http://archives.mandrakelinux.com/cooker-axp/

[hmm, seems I have some tweaks to do on samba:
http://eijk.homelinux.org/build/cooker/alpha/unpackaged_files/samba-2.2.8a-13mdk]

Buchan
