I used to head a System support team for a branch of a multimillion
pound company and the first thing anyone under me learnt was that no
matter how stupid someone was, no matter what things they did - to
remember that their job was to fix the computer, not get all high and
mighty and perpetuate the us/them scenario that dominates IT.
Fortunately I no longer work in IT and headed to academia.

If you want respect as a Tech Support unit - you earn it. You earn it by
fixing things, by helping people out and encouraging people to learn.

No techy under me would bitch about people doing stupid things - because
in 90% of the cases the actual real problem was a lack of training on
the users part, and in the remaining 10% its IT's faults for not locking
down the system properly.

Besides all I seemingly can see here is a wonderful reinforcement of the
Slashdot mentality that seemingly dominates the Linux clique. I've been
running Linux at home since 1996 so I'm a relative young pup but I never
fail to be astounded at the amount of cliqueiness and empire building
within the Linux community.

And regardless of that, my original point stands - it seems to me that
the original poster is possibly using English as a second language - now
he will go away feeling that the Mandrake Discuss mailing list seeming
encourages abuse - I only remember one post actually to the list to help
the guy unsubscribe.

No matter because I know, is seemingly the attitude here. And I also
know. And I will be using it. Much as I like Mandrake, if this is the
level of discussion here perhaps its time to find a new distro.
