  Boot with rescue floppy or CD, mount your / partition, edit
  /etc/shadow and copy the encrypted hash from a password that you
  *do* know (it can be from a different linux box, doesn't matter) and
  replace root's password hash with it. You'll be able to use the
  known password to get into root's account.
