In my workaround, I've also noticed fatter fonts on the login screen.
As root I went into the KDE Desktop configuration ..
System -> Configuration -> Configure your desktop

Then I went To:
System -> Login Manager

From there I selected the Font Tab.

I turned off the Bold attribute on the fonts which made it look more like
before.
