Hi,
I was not able to find in the RFC a section which gives what type of routes
are preferred over other routes. In the book it is given (in Chapter 6 -
after external type 1/2 routes are explained - approx location - I don't
have book with me now), the following order for preferring routes:
1. Intra area routes
2. Inter area routes
3. External type 1 routes
4. External type 2 routes
i.e. if a route (say 10.1.1.0/24) exists via an intra area route as well as
inter area route, the intra area route is always preferred regardless of
the cost.
I am sure that this is the right behavior & the implementation I have got
is also following this rule, but my QA person and the ANVL test tool think
otherwise :-).
Please let me know if there is a section in the RFC stating the behavior
clearly - so that I can refer it to him.
Also one discrepancy betwn the RFC & the book as far as I remember is that
the router priority (for broadcast networks) in the book (chapter 5) is
stated to be between 0 and 127 (while the RFC is silent about this point).
Thanks,
Abhijit
