    Hi all,

Some basic questions with reference to RFC2328.

    a) With reference to Fig 5, index 2.2, page 22, Two routers RT5 and RT7
advertise link to external networks. But N/W "N12" is been
displayed as leaf at two points (RT5 and RT7). Which ever way we
consider, the better path to N12 (whether Type1 or Type 2
external), the path through RT7 is more economical.

Why is the other path through RT5 retained in the tree?

    b) With reference to sub index 16.1, (4), page 165, The para explaining
the Router X being a end point of one of the calculating router's
        Virtual Link.

Is this Router X an ABR with one of the attached areas being the
BackBone or is it an ABR (not on the BBone) which needs a
virtual link to a ABR on the BBone in order to get virtually
        connected to the BBone ?

    c) With reference to sub index 16.1.1, page 167, The first para. The
        Line
"In stage 1 of the shortest-path tree calculation a shorter
path is found as the destination is added to the candidate list,
or when the destination's entry on the candidate list is
        modified (2d of stage 1)."

I am not clear in comprehending this line, should it be
        interpreted as follows:

"In stage 1 of the shortest-path tree calculation, 'IF' a shorter
path is found as the destination, 'IT' is added to the
candidate list, or when the destination's entry on the candidate
list is modified (2d of stage 1)."

    d) With reference to sub index 16.1.1, page 168,
        The first para. The Line
" If there is at least one intervening router in the current
shortest path between the destination and the root, the destination
simply inherits the set of next hops from the parent."

                           ------
                          | ROOT |
                           ------
                             |
                             |
                             |
                        ---------------------
                        | Intervening Router|
                        | (Parent) |
                        ---------------------
                             |
                             |
                             |
                          -------------
                         | Destination |
                          -------------

Does the above line mean that there were other paths already
present between the destination and the parent and an other one
        is added to the set.

Could someone please guide me on these issues.

    Thanks in adv,

    Regrads,
    Achal.
