Dear Sirs

I am a final year undergraduate at the University of Portsmouth (UK)
and as part of my course i am required to complete a Thesis/Dissertation.

I am going to be doing my dissertation on "Smart Card Based Attendance
Monitoring Systems using Visual Basic"

I was just wondering if you could give me some advice as where to start in
the development of a smart card application with Visual Basic?

I have two types of Smart Card Readers both from ACS(Advanced Card Systems)
(1) is an RS-232 and (2) a USB. I have done a very small amount of
programming with the RS-232 interface and no programming with the USB
interface. Would you be able to point me in the right direction and
provide some help on how, i would go about:

1) Communication between the PC and the reader (both interfaces) and

2) Give me guidance with regards to the development of such applications
