MySQL log files

Hello,

How can I enable MySQL 4.0.16 log ?

I just compiled and installed it in my RedHat 9.0 system, but I cant see any log files. I use
default /etc/my.cnf from my-large.cnf.

Sorry, if this question is too newbie, but I cant understand clearly reading MySQL manual.
