fulltext searching using special chars

Hi,

I am trying to search for a word that contains special chars like xxxxºyyyy
or xxxxþyyyy, but I find only the words xxxx and yyyy like when the special
chars are not a part of the word.

I found that if I search for "xxxxºyyyy" (in boolean mode), I am able to
find the records that contain the full word, but I would like to be able to
do this without needing to use quotes.

If it is possible, pleas tell me how.
