I think that goes beyond just doing banner checking, which is great as
well. I used the +V version too, I will check yours out.. It saves some
time. A question for fyodor in regards to that comment he made though..
When you say service fingerprinting.. Are you talking about doing Service
detection via fingerprinting, or printing services to determine the OS?
I took as finger printing services to determine the OS.. or maybe both.
Netcraft does http service finger printing to determine OS type.. While
nmap can't guess my OS type, netcraft can.. They use a combo of a HEAD to
determine web server version, and in based on how the server replies on
the IP level, they finger print the OS.. and it's been pretty accurate
from what I've seen.. and always wondered why nmap didn't already do this
:)
