together in a common install, including LDAP Contextless Login, Password
Restrictions, Message of the Day, and NDS Explorer. Please note that the
NDS Screen Saver, which uses NDS verification to unlock the workstation

highly recommend you give it a look. If you have tried it, you'll want to

56 bit versus 128 bit Support Packs

With the recent availability of SP1 for NetWare 5.1, you may be asking
yourself, "Do I download the 56bit version or the 128 bit version?" At 250
megabytes plus, you don't want to make a mistake!! If you are running the
56bit version of NetWare 5.1 then you need the 56bit version of the support
pack 1, 128bit NetWare - 128bit support pack. Simple, right? The question
becomes, "How do I know what I'm running?" Load NWCONFIG at the server,
select Product Options, and then select View/Configure/Remove installed
products. Look at the NICI entry to determine 56bit or 128bit.

If you are running the 56bit version of NetWare 5.1 and would like to
upgrade to 128bit, then go to the www.novell.com/download web site and
download the Server NICI Crypto Upgrade (Strong Encryption) -128bit. After
that's installed you may install the 128bit version of support pack 1.

Keep in mind that if you are outside the US or Canada, then you are subject
to applicable laws.

Minimum Rights to Allow Intruder Detection Lockout

What are the minimum rights necessary to grant a user so they will be able
to reset the intruder lockout status of other users?

Novell NetWare 4.11 - Previously TID 2916368, now 10023532

See the May edition of TechNews to find out how to set this up in NetWare
5.

In order to assign a person specific rights to change the intruder lockout
status you need to assign certain rights to the container in which those
users exist. Assigning the Write right to the All Property of the Container
will allow a user to change the intruder lockout status. Go to the
container | trustees | add trustee | set All Property to have Write access.
**CAUTION: When doing this, it does give that user the
ability to assign Supervisor rights to himself for that container or
objects in that container. If they don't realize this it will give them
errors attempting to delete users etc in that container. But they do have
the capability to change their rights since they have the Write right to
that container.

Off the Cuff: FHA Loan

This is an actual case.

A New Orleans lawyer sought an FHA loan for a client. He was told the loan
would be granted if he could prove satisfactory title to a parcel of
property being offered as collateral. The title to the property dated back
to 1803, which took the lawyer 3 months to track down. After sending the
information to the FHA, he received the following reply (actual letter):

"Upon review of your letter adjoining your client's loan application, we
note that the request is supported by an Abstract of Title. While we
compliment the able manner in which you have prepared and presented an
application, we must point out that you have only cleared title to the
proposed collateral property back to 1803. Before final approval can be
accorded, it will be necessary to clear title back to its origin."

Annoyed, the lawyer responded as follows (actual letter):

"Your letter regarding title in Case 189156 has been received. I note that
you wish to have title extended further than the 194 years covered by the
present application. I was unaware that any educated person in this
country, particularly those working in the property area, would not know
that Louisiana was purchased by the U.S. from France in 1803, the year of
origin identified in our application. For the edification of uninformed FHA
bureaucrats, the title to land prior to U.S. ownership was obtained from
France, which had acquired it by Right of Conquest from Spain. The land
came into possession of Spain by Right of Discovery made in the year 1492
by a sea captain named Christopher Columbus, who had been granted the
privilege of seeking a new route to India by then reigning monarch,
Isabella. The good queen, being a pious woman and careful about titles,
almost as much as the FHA, took the precaution of securing the blessing of
the Pope before she sold her jewels to fund Columbus' expedition. Now the
Pope, as I'm sure you know, is the emissary of Jesus Christ, the Son of
God. And God, it is commonly accepted, created this world. Therefore, I
believe it is safe to presume that He also made that part of the world
called Louisiana. He, therefore, would be the owner of origin. I hope to
hell you find His original claim to be satisfactory. Now, may we have our
damn loan?"

They got it.
