NUI HOTlabs 2000 Tour

Novell Users International invites you to discover HOTlabs 2000 worldwide
tour. Each six-hour lab is a concentrated, hands-on experience designed
save you time, but still deliver skills you want.

Subjects include:
• NetWare® 5.1 Upgrade Lab featuring both 3x and 4x
• Troubleshooting TCP/IP with protocol analysis
  - Review functions of the OSI model, try various tools associated with
TCP/IP, diagnose
data link Layer issues, troubleshoot packets at the network Layer and
resolve segment
    issues at the transport Layer
• NDS eDirectory for Linux
   - Come try Caldera's eServer and NDS. See how they work together, safe
and secure on
     our equipment.

Compaq, who is a tour sponsor and wants to make sure each training
experience is first hand, provides an Armada M300 notebook computer for
each student's use during the labs. However, Lab capacity is limited to
125 a day, so you are encouraged to register early to insure a seat. You
may attend each HOTlab for only $249 if you are an NUI member (a savings
of $50 each). To join NUI or to register click:
http://www.nuihotlabs.org/signup

Labs are produced for Novell Users International (NUI), in conjunction
with the Institute for Network Professionals and Wyne Island consulting
and are sponsored by Compaq, Intel, PowerQuest and Caldera Systems.
Together they form an educational partnership for Novell that makes this
quality, hands-on training possible.

By the way, NUI first released their NetWare 5.1 lab at Salt Lake's
BrainShare 2000 last March. Over 2200 attended with comments like this one
from Douglas Dersch: "Working in this lab and running through the upgrade
improved my ability to work with the operating system more than any class
or on-the-job experience could in the same amount of time." This same lab
served 350 networking professionals last May during BrainShare in Nice,
France and is now on a worldwide tour to over 100 cities.

PS if you work for an Authorized Novell reseller, be sure to check with
your boss for additional discount information or take a look on the
PartnerNet for details.

Novell Shareware Website

Ever been on the hunt for a utility to accomplish some task of sorts in a
Novell environment and had no idea where to start? Well, here's a good
URL to bookmark: http://www.novellshareware.com/ . Dave's Novell
Shareware (as it's called) is a free service intended for NetWare
enthusiasts and authors of NetWare based software, shareware and freeware
alike. It is their intention to provide the thousands of visitors each
day, a free resource location for software and utilities for their
networks. Check it out, there's even forums where you can post questions!

Useful Forums for Certification Testing

With the Novell CNE certification 5.1 requirement due by month end,
there's a lot of cramming going on! If you'd like to chat with others on
the topic, try visiting
http://networking.brainbuzz.com/boards/viewboardcategories.asp . Thanks to
Tom McKay of Compaq in Columbus, Ohio for providing that link! By the
way, the rest of http://www.brainbuzz.com is really useful too!

Two New ZEN Versions are Around the Corner

Both ZENworks for Servers and ZENworks for Desktops are due for major
version upgrades within months! ZfD 3.0 is scheduled to ship in August
and ZfS 2.0 is due to be available in late October.

ZENworks for Desktops 3.0 will include an extensive list of new features
to include:
Disconnected support - NAL applications/icons are available when not
on the LAN, NAL distributions can be burned to a CD,...
Imaging - The ability to blast down images to workstations coupled
with NAL applications in one 'package' to rebuild a workstation
    Support for MSI applications
    Uninstall option for applications
Enhanced Inventory - Much more scalable, supports Oracle and Sybase as
the repository with roll-up functionality, better reporting too
Enhanced User, Workstation, and Remote Control policies
    Administration from ConsoleOne

ZENworks for Servers 2.0 will take the 1.0 release to the next level by
including the features and functionality of ManageWise. Besides being
able to centrally manage servers using the directory as ZfS 1.0 does
today, the 2.0 release will add the ability to proactively monitor servers
as well using SNMP. The concept of a centralized management console (like
ManageWise required) is eliminated as all databases are stored on the
network and ConsoleOne becomes the management interface.

Neither product is currently available in public beta and it's uncertain
whether there will be public betas. Information about the product will be
available soon at http://www.novell.com.

Off the Cuff: Count Your Blessings, Not Your Problems

A well-known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20 bill. In
the room of 200, he asked, "Who would like this $20 bill?" Hands started
going up. He said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you, but first,
let me do this." He proceeded to crumple the dollar bill up. He then
asked, "Who still wants it?" Still, the hands were up in the air." "Well,"
he continued, "what if I do this?" And he dropped it on the ground and
started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now
crumpled and dirty. "Now, who still wants it?" Still the hands went into
the air. "My friends, you have all learned a very valuable lesson. No
matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not
decrease in value. It was still worth $20."

"Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the
dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way."
"We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or
what will happen, you will never lose your value: dirty or clean, crumpled
or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who love you." "The
worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but in WHO WE
ARE. You are special. Don't ever forget it."

Count your blessings, not your problems.
