Folks, please take a minute to read this and respond with your vote.

I've talked about my idea for a Security Portal before, and I've been
trying to find financing for the idea for the past 2 months.
Unfortunately, I'm having little success getting to the right people.

So I'm considering charging for the NTBugtraq mailing list, but I want
to hear your opinion first. NOTHING HAS BEEN DECIDED, I'm putting the
ideas in front of you for you to vote. If you don't vote, you don't get
heard, so VOTE!.

First, some basic tenants that apply to all options;

1. The web site will always remain open to the public free of charge.

2. The on-line live list archives will always remain open to the public
via the web site free of charge.

3. Anyone who has posted to the list during the last 6 months
automatically receives a free subscription for the next 12 months.

4. Anyone who posts a message to the list which is sent to the list
receives a subscription for 12 months free of charge (the free period
comes into effect upon their next subscription renewal).

----------
Option #1:

The ability to receive NTBugtraq via email will cost US$60 per year.
Payment is required to begin receiving. Payment will be received via the
NTBugtraq web site via credit card.

The NTBugtraq site would be enhanced with all of the capabilities of
Netscape's NetCenter (http://www.netcenter.com) or some equivalent under
the banner of SecurityAdvice.com. Each paid subscriber would have a
SecurityAdvice.com account which would include free Email, Software
Updates, Customizable News, and the other features NetCenter offers,
plus, features specific to SecurityAdvice.com like a free S/MIME key
and/or a PGP Certificate Server for subscribers. SecurityAdvice.com
would offer expert commentary from security notables in the form of
editorial columns.

A true Security Portal would be formed with a variety of news and
services focused on security. New lists would be formed to cover Windows
'95/'98 security, Win2000, Exchange, SQL, etc...

A minimum of 7,500 subscribers are required for this to work.

----------
Option #2:

A US$60 per year subscription payment would be requested, but optional.
This is the "pay if you think its worth it" model. Payment will be
received via the NTBugtraq web site via credit card.

No NetCenter-like features would be offered, but free S/MIME keys and a
PGP Certificate Server for subscribers would still be offered.

Some expert commentary from security notables would be made available,
although the quantity would be determined by the number of paying
subscribers.

NTBugtraq would attempt to increase the level of services offered
according to the quantity of paying subscriptions.

----------
Option #3:

Status Quo. No changes. Someone else makes the Security Portal and you
get what they think you need.

Please vote by replying to this message and replacing the subject line
with "Option #1", "Option #2", or "Option #3" indicating what you'd be
willing to accept.

NTBugtraq is worthless without posters, obviously! So its critically
important for me to know whether or not you would still post to
NTBugtraq if it were fee based (i.e. Option #1). If you have been a
poster, or think you might be in the future, tell me your opinion in the
message body of your reply.

Again, please take a minute and send me your reply.

Cheers,
Russ - NTBugtraq moderator
