Administrivia messages are message that I, Russ Cooper, your moderator,
send out to let you know how things are going with NTBugTraq itself. I
try to do them periodically but not so frequently that you won't read
them. They are an attempt to keep the spirit of community alive within
NTBugTraq. The number that you see in the subject line represents the
number of subscribers at the time I write this message. I figure we have
about 5000 additional readers subscribed through expanders and remailers
that are subscribed to the list.

1. Welcome
2. Happy Anniversary
3. Teardrop2 kudos
4. Special Email address, AlertNTBugtraq.com
5. NTBugTraq Logo Content submissions available

------------

1. Welcome!

I say welcome because in the last two weeks we have had 775 new members
subscribe. That's the highest rate of new subscribers we've ever seen.
For the New amongst us... NTBugTraq is a moderated list. The List
Charter, explain the do's and don'ts, can be found at
http://www.ntbugtraq.com/ntbugfaq.htm. The List Archives can be found at
http://listserv.ntbugtraq.com. In case you're wondering, the NTBugTraq
home page is at http://www.ntbugtraq.com, at the end of a meager 56k
connection to the 'net. If you find it slow going, sorry, I've put out a
call for advertisers in the hopes that it can fund more bandwidth. We'll
get there...;-]

2. Happy Anniversary!

On Friday the 13th, NTBugTraq will celebrate its 1st birthday. I
expected more out of NTBugTraq over the last 12 months than we've seen.
Some might remember last year when I predicated that the summer of '97
was going to be filled with announcements of exploits as the hackers
focused their attention on NT. Well, guess the hackers took the summer
off...;-] I'm going to try and get out my year in review around that
date.

3. Teardrop2 kudos...

Folks, as a community we were extremely effective during the Teardrop2
attack last week. Unfortunately, though, we didn't become aware of it
through NTBugTraq. I'd like to remind you all that we can, as a
community, make a difference when we exchange information. That's the
reason for NTBugTraq's existence. As you saw during the attack analysis,
NTBugTraq can serve an extremely useful role. The information that came
in as a result of my call to you was incredibly valuable in determining
precisely what was going on, how to stop it, and how to prevent it from
happening again.

4. AlertNTBugtraq.com

I have set up a special email address for sending information that you
don't want published directly. mailto:AlertNTBugtraq.com should do the
trick. Any messages sent to that address will be handled in the
strictest confidence. I will shortly have PGP and SMIME available under
that address, as well as my own. Stay tuned...;-]

5. NTBugTraq Logo Contest

Finally, I've received a number of images in response to my offer of
US$100 for the new NTBugTraq logo. The closing date is March 15th, 1998,
so if you were planning on submitting something better get it done
quick. Meanwhile, you can have a look at the submissions. I've set up a
series of web pages that displays each one individually. I've also set
up an email address that you can use to vote for your favorite (please,
just vote once for one logo). Check back through the week to see if any
new contenders show up. Otherwise, there are currently 7 to chose from,
and I'd say they all deserved a look! The page is
http://www.ntbugtraq.com/logos/

Cheers,
Russ - NTBugTraq moderator
