When installing Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 with Routing & Remote Access 1=
.0
you are told to install RRAS hotfix so that the two products can co-exist=
s
on the
same machine without loss of functionality to either product. (Q176924)

I haven=92t found any reference to a specific order of installation for t=
hese
products so
I assumed it should be by the date of release (e.g 1.RRAS, 2.Proxy 2.0,
3.RRAS Hotfix).

While installing the last component (e.g RRAS Hotfix) I have noticed that
the
installation program prompted me with a message indicating that there is =
an
attempt to copy a source file (ipfltdrv.sys) which is older from the targ=
et
file.

This message seemed to me rather odd since I assumed that the hotfix file=
s
where supposed to supersede current installed device drivers with bug-fix=
ed
ones.

For those whom are interested Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 Dynamic Packet
Filtering feature is implemented through ipfltdrv.sys along with other
features.

Further examination of RRAS hotfix ipfltdrv.sys file reveled that the fil=
e
date is
later than the Proxy filter driver but smaller in size.

So, What=92s going on here RRAS installation Program shouts that there is=
 a
file newer then file it=92s attempting to copy but the file date attribut=
e
says
otherwise.

Well, it appears that RRAS hotfix installation program examines internal
versioning of the two files being addressed here and not the actual date
attribute of the file which is OK, cause Proxy Server ipfltdrv.sys includ=
es
added functionality over the standard RRAS one and SHOULD NOT be
replaced.

Don=92t be confused with the file dates of the RRAS hotfix components
as they are all the same, besides the only file that should be replaced f=
or
RRAS
to work with Proxy 2.0 is Iprtrmgr.dll which can manualy extracted from t=
he
hotfix.
