Howdy all,

Boy, things have been pretty quite lately, eh?

Summary
1. NTFixes updates
2. Call for testers
3. Impending Web Site move
4. Listserv use reminders

Details
1. NTFixes updates

I've been doing some work on the engine that drives the contents of
http://www.ntbugtraq.com/NTFixes.asp. In case you're new, that page
gives you the ability to see all of Microsoft's NT Service Packs and Hot
Fixes, in date order, in a list based on your OS Version, Language,
Processor, and installed SP level.

Anyway, I added the display of "Deleted" items. Rather than removing
them from the listings, I flagged items that MS has removed from their
FTP server instead. That way if you'd been told about something that had
since been deleted, you would see that it was deleted (rather than just
not finding it at all).

2. Call for testers

I'm preparing to offer a new service (intended to be fee-based).
Basically, you'll be able to subscribe to a service which will send you
an email notification within 2 hours of Microsoft placing a new Hot Fix
or Service Pack on their FTP server.

I'm looking for assistance from interested parties who will help define
what the message format should be, and what areas should be reported on
(anyone interested in Exchange SP/HF notifications? SQL? and so on).

The 5 folks who provide the most valuable feedback/suggestions will get
a free 1-year subscription to the service when its rolled out (hopefully
by the end of June).

3. I'm in the process of arranging for http://www.ntbugtraq.com and
http://www.ntbugtraq.com/ntsecurity to be moved to a facility with more
than sufficient bandwidth. The hope is that it will improve your
experience with the web site as well as make the downloads more
accessible. You may be interested to know that http://www.ntbugtraq.com
is currently serving almost 100,000 requests per month now.

I'm considering switching the web site names over to
http://ntbugtraq.ntadvice.com and http://ntsecurity.ntadvice.com,
feedback on the change would be appreciated!

4. Listserv use reminders

With summer upon us here in the northern hemisphere, lots of folks will
be taking vacations. Before you go sending list posters a message every
time they post telling them you're enjoying your trip, how's about
remembering to set your subscription options correctly?

If you use an Out of Office agent, and haven't configured it to ignore
messages from mailing lists (or can't), the following command will
prevent you from being a pain in everyone's behind...;-]

SET NTBUGTRAQ NOMAIL

As with all Listserv commands (subscribe, unsubscribe, etc...) they
should be sent to LISTSERVLISTSERV.NTBUGTRAQ.COM, not the list itself.
You can get a complete list of the commands available to you by sending
the command;

INFO REFCARD

to the Listserv address.

As usual, if you run into problems, contact me directly at
mailto:Russ.Cooperrc.on.ca, you're moderator and all-round list kinda
guy...;-] List feedback, comments, and suggestions would be appreciated
also!

Cheers,
Russ Cooper
