Dan wrote in to confirm that his problem is solved and thanked
everyone for responding.

I hate to say this, but in making my summary from your responses I
overlooked several people's suggestion (UCS_MCAshsu.edu was first)
that Dan simply reboot the computer. Turns out that's all Dan had to
do to resolve the issue.

I, in my infinite wisdom, said to myself; "surely he's already done
that...sheesh..."
