Macromedia has recently released Netscape Shockwave Flash plugins for
Linux and Solaris. I have this working under OpenBSD just fine, including
working sound. Here's a brief description of how to do this:
1. Install linux_lib port.
2. Make sure COMPAT_LINUX is enabled in your kernel (i.e., GENERIC).
3. D/L ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/communicator/english/4.76/unix/unsupported/linux20_libc5/navigator_standalone/navigator-v476-us.x86-unknown-linux2.0.tar.gz
4. D/L Linux Flash Player 5 at http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/alternates
5. Uninstall any existing Netscape installing with pkg_delete.
6. Use ns-install script to install Linux version of Netscape.
7. Copy libflashplayer.so and ShockwaveFlash.class to $HOME/.netscape/plugins
Then run /usr/local/netscape/netscape and type "about:plugins" into the
location bar to verify the install worked.
That's it. Works for me. Hopefully we'll see a Shockwave FLAVOR for the
Netscape port. :)
PS - For a system-wide Flash install, you should be able to put the .class
and .so in /usr/local/netscape/plugins -- I'm just explaining what
worked for me.
