    usually it is advised to "make build" in single-user mode. That is, the
    box is somewhat isolated from network & nobody using it. No wonder that
    things don't work as expected when you are changing (almost) everything
    on the system (libs, binaries & such). Can you update to the latest
    snapshot, make build in single-user, reboot + ./MAKEDEV (if needed) and
    see if there are still problems ?
