Could it be a typo in your XF86Config?
I found the following at http://www.xfree86.org/4.0.2/Status9.html#9

Notice the 754x sets. The version with 2.9 is X 4.0.3 and this document
is for 4.0.2, so it might be supported.
You might want to try running 3.3.6 instead of 4.0.3.
