    In addition to the problem described here, could you verify the following:

    1. Enable Console Redirection in the STL-2 BIOS.
    2. Now the boot program cannot see the serial port used by console
       redirection.

    This is unfortunate, since it would be *very* nice to have a serial console
    on the same serial port as the BIOS console.

    The Console Redirection feature only works in "DOS-mode"[1]. When e.g. the
    Linux or BSD kernel starts, Console Redirection is turned off and the
    serial port is available for the starting kernel. It is detected and can be
    used.

    The problem seems to be that the boot program can't see the serial port
    because it runs in "DOS" mode.

    [1] sorry, don't know the correct technical term for it. Real mode vs.
    protected mode?
