What is the harm of using /henningsfavoriteinstalllocaltion? If I release a
package in /henningsfavoriteinstalllocation, why would one want to move it
somewhere else?
What is the harm of using /theosgreatsoftware?
What about /heikkiwritesgoodsoftwaretoo?
And /artisagreatprogrammer?
Don't get me wrong, the /package concept makes sense IMHO. But if every
author releases his software using /myfavoritelocationoutsideusrlocal we get
a big chaos. The OpenBSD ports tree allows anyone to install the packages in
/package quite easy. The authors may not like that. But they don't force us
to use /opt/anything or whatever they prefer. This allows consistency
within the system. You are trying to force us to use /package.
_that's_ the issue, not /package itself.
