Well said, and that had to be said.
Now, if DJB would just read this!
I don't think from what I've read that the openBSD people fail to
realize this. It is just that DJB fails to realize that the openBSD
people have made up their collective mind and are not going to change
it. The only way DJB is going to get his software back in the obsd
ports tree is to change his license, period.
Now, I'm not saying, and neither is anyone else, that you cannot go
or should not go to his web site and download the software and
install it however the heck you feel like installing it.
DJB has the right to not change his license, as should be.
OpenBSD has the right to not include any package they do not want,
for whatever reason, as should be.
So, where is the dispute?
Simple really, DJB wants his software in the obsd ports tree and obsd
does not want it in there.
This isn't going to be resolved this way. Ever. I see that now.
DJB must, at this point, give up, his tools are not going to be part
of the openBSD ports tree or elsewhere for the foreseeable future.
The discussion has, unfortunately, come to a crashing halt. Unless
someone can contribute something new besides new and pointless
insults and swear words that is.
Sad really, such nice software, it should be in ports, but it clearly
cannot be because of fundamental differences in approach.
The horse has died.
