To setup a tty on a serial port, all you have to do is having this line
in /etc/ttys :
For i386 com2 (2f8 irq4) :
tty01 "/usr/libexec/getty std.9600" vt100 on secure local
The "local" keyword at the end is very important, thats what ive been
missing all this time
to get a login prompt. Without it, your connected, but no prompt..
