    Hi folks,

I did a fresh 3.1 install, and it doesn't recognize my
CD-ROM drive. This is an old Dell P100 machine with
    the original NEC CD-ROM drive.

I searched the archives, and someone suggested
disabling pciide for a similar problem, something
about PIO compatibility mode, etc. All these terms
are foreign to me, so can someone explain what I need
    to do? :) Thanks!

Here's full dmesg. It spends several minutes "waiting
    to send SCSI packet".
