    According to http://www.openbsd.org/i386.html, most multifunction
PCMCIA cards are not supported. I have had problems trying to get
Xircom CEM56s working under OpenBSD. In my case the card was
    recognised but did not work.

However, I have had good success with the single-function Xircom
network cards. For several months my ADSL firewall was a Toshiba
Portege 320CT with 2 x Xircom CE3s in it. In the UK they're quite
cheap, around GBP 45 each (about US$70). (At least, I think that's
    cheap!)

See if you can get hold of one of those; if that doesn't work,
post your dmesg and details of which card you were using.

In addition, a similar question was discussed on this list a little
while ago; a search of the list archives may provide alternative
    possibilities.

Finally, if you were booting off floppy for the install, make sure
you weren't using the Floppy A image (floppy32.fs). According to
http://www.openbsd.org/i386.html (again), that disk does NOT
include the xe(4) driver you will need. For laptops it's best to
    use Floppy C.

    Good luck
