Re: Donations after new releases.

In all seriousness, this would probably be a good idea. I think people would
respond better to "we only need $1,000 more to hit our goal of <$amount>"
than "please donate, we really need the money". I'm not saying that people
shouldn't encourage donations, of course -- but generally speaking, goals
actually do improve performance.

Besides, it's not like it'd be that hard to do. I assume that notification
of donations comes to a central address somewhere. If that's the case,
setting up a script to check that mailbox and update a database (or, heck, a
simple text file with a total) should be simple, right? Heck, if privacy
issues can be appropriately accounted for (and I have no idea what those
are, since I know nothing about the info that flows in with a donation), I'd
be happy to maintain this myself. It'd be the least I can do, since my
personal economics limit me to buying one CD per release and the occasional
minor (<$50) donation.

Anyone on the project team, if you think this might be a good idea, please
contact me off-list so we can discuss feasibility.

If you're wondering about an odd attachment to this mail that you can't
seem to open, it's my digital/cryptographic signature. It's like signing
a regular letter, only much tougher to forge. If you want to learn more
