::DING DING DING:: We have a winner!
It was mod_perl that was killing me. Commenting it out
made Apache start right up.
After seeing this, I remembered I hadn't deleted the
old /usr/lib/libc_r* and /usr/lib/libnpthread after my
upgrade to 3.3, since I was paranoid MySQL hadn't been
properly recompiled and that I'd lose it. Once I
deleted those, I could load mod_perl.
