It kind of works for me: I have 8 fonts to select
from for the "Serif", "Sans-serif" and "Monospace":

    Serif
    Bitstream charter
    Courier
    Courier 10 Pitch
    Luxi Mono
    Luxi Sans
    Luxi Serif
    Utopia

But I don't understand if those fonts are coming from
/etc/fonts/fonts.conf or not... And fc-list lists totally
different fonts:

    newhope:alex {503} fc-list | awk -F: '{ print $1 }' | sort -u
    Andale Mono
    Arial
    Arial Black
    Bitstream Charter
    Comic Sans MS
    Courier
    Courier 10 Pitch
    Courier New
    Cursor
    Georgia
