Awhile back (2+ years), I remember investigating a DSL solution that was
geared for hotels - I believe it was a company called "Elastic
Networks", and one of the features they had was the same as what you've
got listed here. It did DHCP by default, but also had the ability to
detect (and compensate for) fixed IP, DNS & GW settings.

I have no idea how this was accomplished, but I do believe that this
functionality is out there.

In fact, I know that to be the case. The last time I was in Ottawa, I
stayed in a hotel that had the elastic product installed. I plugged my
machine in (which has a fixed IP/GW/etc.) and it 'just worked.' The
hotel was "The Arc"on Slater Street. Great hotel, by the way, if you
are ever in the neighborhood.
