This is a way-off chance, but I wonder if you're having some weird problem
with the other packages installed on the machine. I'd try installing just
xmms and see if that does anything different?
I've been using xmms on -current machines for almost four years now, with
only one packaging problem in that time. Something is odd in your
environment. You did fetch new copies, right?
