#1 have you tried with real nic's ? :)
#2 do you reach "high network activity" without the rsync-script ?

With a healthy box, 300mb should pass along as gracefully at a 300
pounds fat lady crossing Trafalgar Square during a lunchbreak. Crowded
yes, but still room for more.

I don't know what you mean by "high network activity" or if you
have/have not changed anything with 'config' or 'sysctl' or what default
net-tools tells you, but {#0, #1, #2} is where I would start. Perhaps #0
