It looks like even Adaptec's inexpensive ($75) SATA card (1210SA) is
doing the "hostraid" software-driver thing. How the mighty have
fallen

The 3Ware goes for $137US, which wouldn't be a bad price for a RAID
controller, if it were supported under OpenBSD.

I've been using the Dell PE1750 and 2650, these are their more
expensive servers, and come with the "PERC" Adaptec SCSI RAID
controllers for which there is usually OpenBSD support.
Every so often Dell will change the specs on their products without
warning, that appears to be what's happened with the 400SC being
delivered with Promise controllers.
If it wasn't for corporate policy making it painfully difficult to
order anything other than Dell or Sun servers, this would be enough
to drive me to another rackmount server vendor.
