I use two DB9 to RJ45 adapters with a rollover cable that comes with
all Cisco equipment. There are literally several hundreds of these
lying around where I used to work. People started to throw them
away...

  When I want to connect to my Mac laptop (no serial port) I use a cheap
USB to Serial adapter i.e.
