It's not always about static IPs, you have public and private assigned IP's
from your ISP. Most of the time a reverse DNS lookup on your IP will reveal
your ISP details. I think they [I mean their MTA] look at that, and a simple
match from a list of known ISP's [i.e BT or Wanadoo in the UK, AOL and
likewise else where in the world...] and they will automatically block that
email.

It sucks when you want to run your own DNS & mail server as I've found
out... I used to have a static BT IP, but that didn't work and had a few
complaints when people tried sending emails out to AOL users and got their
emails returned. I changed my ISP and I have no problems sending emails to
any other providers.

My advice is do what I did, contact the Internet providers you are thinking
of going with, ask if you can host DNS and SMTP services without
restrictions. I know some ISP's here in the UK will allow you to host a SMTP
service, but once you have your DSL line activated, you have to request that
they unblock your port 25.

Hope this info is of some help to you...

Dunno. I've got a static address and I still send my mail upstream to my
ISP. Can't malicious people have your address blacklisted? It'd probably be
easier to report one of the leaf nodes of a DSL provider as a spammer than
the ISP itself. At any rate, how else did my last IP address end up in SORBS
(it was dynamic, mind you, but I was the only one to use it for somewhere
around 3 months)?
