Any possibility the power is a bit dodgy? I have had systems that had
issues with power sags and such while other systems ran find from the
same surge protector. If you tried one a "Line Interactive" UPS may
help with the problem.

The other thing that I have seen cause that kind of freeze is bad
memory. In my experience different operating systems deal with memory
quirks better(?) than others, for example my Compaq Proliant 1850's ran
find for years with NT4 installed, but I found problems with the memory
when I installed OpenBSD.
