If it were to "just" parse 0377 and 0xAFFE without any special
flag which says to do this, many programmes would suddenly
accept octals and sedecimals. It's a change in behaviour and
might surprise users (and I don't know if it's "good" for you
that's why), but it's an additional benefit in my eyes if you
can "suddenly" use numbers in different bases where you could
not before.

At least the 0x part might be considered, because it doesn't
happen as often as leading zeroes during normal operation.
