Apparently you missed the original post, it's about using gzip when you
boot from install cd's, and open a shell (remember "install, upgrade,
shell"?), kind of boot into a rescue mode, where you mount disks and do
backup and such, with the tools from the CD.

I know that gzip functions if I *install* the system, and one shouldn't
work as root, and such. But thank you anyway.
