İmplementing AES in linux kernel

hello everyone;
i know that PAM uses DES to encrypt the password while running "passwd" command
The problem is ,i want PAM to use AES instead of DES
Can you help me where PAM calls DES,how it uses?
Do I need a special editor to make changes in PAM library?
