I'm doing a site that have to ask for the authentication when the user leaves it without close the browser if he enter in it again.

Thank you very much!!!

check the download/contrib section of mysql's web site, Zeev wrote an apache module to authenticate against
a mysql database, i use it myself. works well.

as for the rest of the functionality you are looking for, you might look into sessions/cookies for that.
you might even check out phplib, i think it does good stuff like that. i don't have the URL, someone
else?

To get SSL workig I have added ApacheSSL and OpenSSL. The secure server works fine but with no php capability.

Is there any way to change the PHP configuration in NT (IIS) outside of the PHP.ini file, ala .htaccess on Apache?

In PHP4 there is output buffering this allows all the would be output to a script to be saved (temporarily) and all outputted at once, at the end of the script. So you can run your script with output buffering on, do a simple test to see if everything went OK in the script and if it did, output the data, if it didn't use header("Location: error_template.php3") to redirect the user. This all can happens before any header information gets sent.

Hi Everyone,

My boss just got back from a trade show last night, and a couple of guys basically told him that cold fusion was the best thing since sliced bread...

He came in talking about toyrus.com and this, and that....

He wants to know why we don't have it installed on out servers....

Thanks in advance... Bill

attached mail follows:

> He wants to know why we don't have it installed on out servers....

maybe it's my lack of sleep, so i'm going out on a limb here. i'm guessing you don't have cold fusion on your servers because you haven't purchased it and installed it?

> Thanks in advance... you are welcome.

and just so this email doesn't come off as totally sarcastic, sure I guess cold fusion could be pretty neat, but it costs money, and I pray you never encounter a situation that cold fusion wasn't "designed" for. you will have yourself a nice time trying to work around it.

PHP has always been able to deliver what I needed from it. but hey, that's just my .02, use the tool that suits the job. do some research, maybe it is the greatest thing since pajamas with feet, and will fill your need(s) better than PHP. I personally need convincing, a couple of guys better prove it to me.

I hope i've given some insight into what you were looking for, but, since i have no idea what you really wanted so I took my best guess. regards.

I tried to buy something from toys-r-us once, and not only the database down, but for some reason it felt it had to give me all kinds of debugging information - including the database password! I will slice my own bread if it will prevent things like this from happening to me.

Your boss is suffering from what I tend to call "The Latest Expert" syndrome :)

I *used* to use Cold Fusion - and to be honest it is a good product. PHP, however, is more flexible, runs on anything (CF is still not fully out for Linux after all this time!) and is, well, free :)

> He came in talking about toyrus.com and this, and that....

The guys who built that probably went to a trade show a few years ago :)

I want to strip whitespaces from the medium of a string

ie:

$name = "pablo pasqualino" $name = foo($name)

now $name should be "pablo pasqualino"

I tried with Chop() but it didn´t work

Best regards, coolio mailto:cooliomdq.com

attached mail follows:

>I want to strip whitespaces from the medium of a string > >ie: > >$name = "pablo pasqualino" >$name = foo($name) > >now $name should be "pablo pasqualino" >

Chop only works at the beginning or end of the string. Use ereg_replace():

$name = ereg_replace('[[:space:]]+', ' ', $name);

Now, this replaces all 'whitespace' characters - tabs, spaces, etc. - with one space. If you ONLY want to replace spaces, then

$name = ereg_replace('[ ]+', ' ', $name);

If you want to remove all leading/trailing spaces as well, you can use

$name = ereg_replace('[[:space:]]+', ' ', chop($name));

It seems that Apache doesn't execute php.exe.

1) Check the Apache configuration. Add this lines In httpd.conf in the appropriate places ScriptAlias /php3/ "c:/php3/" ... or where you have php3 files. AddType application/x-httpd-php3 .phtml AddType application/x-httpd-php3 .php3 Action application/x-httpd-php3 "/php3/php.exe"

After any change to the configuration, you must stop apache and run it again.

2) Create a file called prova.php3 ( note the extension ) and put inside "<? phpinfo(); ?>". Then open it.

That's all.

Hi, again, I have Apache installed and working fine on NT, the same PHP, but separetely. php <? phpinfo(); ?> (from the command line) gives me the output. I have created a HTML file that contains only "<? phpinfo(); ?>" but when I put it in in "c:/apache/htdocs" directory and call it from the browser I can't see any output. I have tried many settings but I couldn't have any positive result.

Thank you.

For those of you familiar with the RUST ticketing system (perl modules), is there something like it in php3? We are currently using rust, but there is so much stuff we want to add and change, it would require way too much work and effort to modify the perl and have been thinking about writing something like it in php. However, if there is already something out there...

Thanks.

I think Oracle is saying that $lob_upload was read from a file using fopen(..., 'r') instead of fopen(..., 'rb'). Errr, I *think* it's 'b' for binary... Read the docs.

Anyway, if that's not it, I dunno what else it could be.

One idea, though, is to just store the files on your hard-drive somewhere and only store the path to it in the database.

You're just bloating your database otherwise.

No, I didn't mean that...;-)

I'd make a simplistic test case to compare the time to complete for each of the methods.

(1) Add timing hack marks at the start and end of some simple page that uses the current file-based method.

(2) Create a simple MySQL solution (a) add a _simplistic_ tracking table CREATE TABLE count (page varchar(40) not null, count INT default 0) manually add a record with the value of "page" that would be the same as the result of $PHP_SELF and with count=0 (b) copy the old page, strip out all the old counter logic then, at the bottom of this _copy_ page you're using to test the MySQL version -- do something like

$sql="UPDATE count set count=count+1 where page='$PHP_SELF' "; // Do the database query thingy here -- just do the update, no returns

Don't forget to include the timing hacks at top and bottom of this page too.page.

If you get good results -- then complete the application code and that count table to include other useful info and make it an auto_appended file to all pages.

Hi, Since I must use mSQL I was wondering if there is a safe way of doing an increment-and-store operation? mSQL doesn't have auto_increment, and the sequence _seq is only one per table. So to me it seems the only alternative there -given the constraints- is to do a SELECT to get the current value and then UPDATE to write the incremented value.

Does anybody had any practical experience in that with a production system? I am not an SQL guru but I am not sure if it it is possible to do a SET field+=1 or something like that :-)

TIA, emilio

Hey guys..

I have this array that looks like this:

$myarray = ( "apples" => 0, "oranges" => 2, "peaches" => 9, "pineapples" => 12, "stovetopstuffing" => 3, "grits" => 8);

Fine and dandy. But, when I try to sort it in reverse order:

arsort($myarray);

I get THIS for output, obviously NOT what I want:

peaches => 9 grits => 8 stovetopstuffing => 3 oranges => 2 pineapples => 12 apples => 0

Obviously, I want the pineapples entry to be at the top, since it has the highest value. What do I need to do?

George,

Well sorry to say that, using your code (almost), I get the following K(ey) V(al) pairs:

K pineapples == V 12 K peaches == V 9 K grits == V 8 K stovetopstuffing == V 3 K oranges == V 2 K apples == V 0

Which seems to be what is expected ;-)

While you did not show the code used to display the sorted array I used the following

<? while(list($k,$v)=each($myarray)){ echo "Key $k == Val $v<BR>"; } ?>

My changes made to the code you included are shown (below)

You have stored strings as your values, instead of ints.

IE: (string) '9' > (string) '12' returns TRUE

You will need to take care in creating your array to have (int) values instead of strings.

If all else fails, the following should work:

while(list($k, $v) = each($myarray)){ $myarray[$k] = (int) $v; } arsort($myarray); reset($myarray); while(list($k, $v) = each($myarray)){ echo $k, ' == ', $v, "<BR>\n; }

Greetings all!

I am running NES 3.6 on a solaris 2.7 box. Trying to get php 4 to run as a cgi module. I've seen some websites on how to do it for php3, and I've tried to do as directed, but with no luck (specifically, when using the solution found on http://swt-www.informatik.uni-hamburg.de/howto/php3.html, I cannot get the redirect.cgi file to compile at all...seems like there are files missing in the tar file).

I am going insane over this. Does someone have a comiled redirect.so for solaris 2.7 that they could send me a copy of? Or, does someone have any other solutions that I may use?

Thanks very much in advance, --Desmond SalesOnline Direct

One of the beauties of php is that it is not tied to html. You can use php as an e-mail scripting language as well.

Example:

#!/usr/local/bin/php -q Subject: <? echo "cool php stuff\n" ?>

Blah blah

<? Insert pdf here ?>

---------------------------

Of course you'll need a way to retrieve the e-mail address and send it. Well, then just use php as a general purpose scripting language and write a program that sends mail.

All of this assumes you have a version of php that is compiled as a scripting language (aka CGI).

Mark:

Thanks for the feedback. I rechecked the .inf - the only part I changed was the path to the EXE. There are a number of settings for each extension - each are the same except for the actual extension (either php, php3, or phtm3). I rechecked the registry and all matches up there as well. Very confusing - but it seems that most folks use the php3 extension, so I guess I'll go with that for now.

It's been a while since I set up my Cold Fusion directories - I went back and checked, and they indeed had been set to execute as well. I thought that I only had to turn on Script for them - I guess that's just for ASP.

Thanks again for your kind help,

Greg,

I would carefully check your .inf and make sure you have modified the right section (there is one for 95/98 and one for NT i think). Also you must make 3 changes i think. Then re "install" the .inf .php or whatever you want should work.

Also you do have to put the Execute bit on directories for PWS to process PHP (similar to cold fusion). This will flow to all subdirectories _unless_ you have an alias, then you will again have to set the execute bit.

Probably because you're using -

I don't want to process all the data through a single connection...of cause I need a connection for every file!

My point is, that I want to connect to he server, get the data, determine the content-type. If the content-type is image, java, sound etc (nothing but html) it shall just be printed out with the correct Header. If html, it shall process through my code, to change all the HREF's SRC's etc in the HTML-tags and then print it out to the client. If I could do that in one HTTP-request, it would be great?

I have used the readfile() function which makes the HTTP-request, and prints out the data, and that is great, cause this works with pictures (but I cant do the HTML-processing)

Any ideas?

So, like, "stealing" another web-site on the fly?

You'll need a regex or 10 to find all the HREFs and SRCs and replace their links with links to where you store your files, or to some sort of script that will spit out their images through your site...

Okay, if that's the question you are asking, look for ereg_xxx examples involving HREF= and SRC= throughout the code archives and mailing list archives.

thanks a lot for the information! it looks like a great documentation. It really helps me on scalability. on the other hand this method requieres one imap server (installed one on each box) for each domain.. it's a little nuts for virtual domains.

You should be able to get away with a very simple one. Try something like this:

<?php function cmp( $c1, $c2 ) { return (int) ( $c1 - $c2 ); }

$list = '12,11,1,24,2,22,3,30,23,0'; $list = explode( ',', $list );

usort( $list, 'cmp' ); ?>

The manual entry for usort() explains this.

Cheers,

I do understand how usort() works but I was unsure on how to return the result as an int from my comparison routine. I was not aware that I could do (int) to typecast...

Hi all, can anybody tell me how to get the size of an image? GetImageSize() doesn't help, since the image comes directly out of an SQL database and thus doesn't have a filename. Is there any other function that could get the image dimensions? And, when we're already at it, is there a way to *scale* images, besides using ImageMagick? I would like to avoid the overhead: first retrieving the image from the database, writing it to a file, calling ImageMagick via system() and finally submitting the file to the browser. Is there any other/better way to do this?

If you put the images in to the database using php you could always add a couple more cols to hold the dimensions.

Your choices are:

Rewrite your most secret code in C and compile it into PHP. See apidoc.txt in the tarball for pointers.

Wait for the Zend commer$ial add-on to allow you to compile PHP into distributable binaries and buy that.

In either case, nothing beats a clear-cut license and a reasonably pricing scheme followed by violation vigilance.

I need to be able to write a totally new file into a directory using either fopen(... 'r') or copy(), but I get denied by the filesystem.

Using those two functions works acceptably on Win98, because it has lousy filesystem security.

However, using PHP/3.0.14 in safe mode on Linux, there are continual "permission denied" errors.

I tried setting the directory to have different permissions, but still it did not work.

Both chmod 1777 and 1666 did not work. What has anyone else found?

Is there any way around?

Both are a Bad Idea (tm).

echo "this is ", $row['what'], " xyz";

OR

$filepointer = fopen('http://www.digifactory.fr/', 'r') or die('Could not open digifactory.fr'); while (!feof($filepointer)){ //Assume no HTML line is more than 1 million chars:-) $line = fgets($filepointer, 1000000); echo htmlEntities($line); } fclose($filepointer);

If you mean *PHP* source, it will only work if the server has enabled it, and you use the .phps extension. Actually, there webmaster *could* have elected to use some extension other than .phps for PHP source...

Or, if their ftp server allows access to their http directory, I reckon you could use the ftp commands in PHP to get their PHP source that way...

Hi,

I am wondering that can I store the resume into database mysql? and How? I know that the string is only 145 character string for text? I would like to build a form for user to fill in and he submit it to the database. When he want to retrieve that text from the database, it will pop up the whole text.

Can anyone lead me to the example scripts of php or mysql?

Hi all,

Im really burning my brain on this one...if anyone has any insight that might be helpful...I could sure use it.

I have a multi-dimen array of default values. I need to display a page with checkboxes and fill the checkboxes with the values (checked if key exists) then based on what the user checks/unchecks I need to build the array back up and redisplay the page with the current values, kind of like the following:

$vals["parent1"]["feature1"] = "Search"; $vals["parent1"]["feature2"] = "Add"; $vals["parent1"]["feature3"] = "Delete"; $vals["parent1"]["feature4"]["sub_feature1"] = "Alt Search"; $vals["parent1"]["feature4"]["sub_feature2"] = "Alt Add"; $vals["parent1"]["feature4"]["sub_feature3"] = "Alt Delete";

and checkboxes like: <input type=checkbox name=parent1[feature1]> //checked if key exists <input type=checkbox name=parent1[feature2]> //checked if key exists <input type=checkbox name=parent1[feature3]> //checked if key exists <input type=checkbox name=parent1[feature4][sub_feature1]> //checked if sub key exists <input type=checkbox name=parent1[feature4][sub_feature1]> //checked if sub key exists <input type=checkbox name=parent1[feature4][sub_feature1]> //checked if sub key exists

$vals["parent2"]["feature1"] = "Search"; $vals["parent2"]["feature2"] = "Add"; $vals["parent2"]["feature3"] = "Delete";

same as above

After checkboxes are checked/unchecked and page is posted I need to rebuild $vals with only the keys checked then redisplay the checkboxes (checked accordingly)

AFAIK, no such extension exists.

Dynamically-loaded PHP Modules have been discussed for PHP4, but I don't think that's reality yet.

PHP 3.0.8 is pretty old anyway.

That usually means either:

The PHP doc doesn't actually output anything, or

The rpms you tried to use together are not matching up version-wise.

AFAIK, include/require use the exact same mechanism to locate files, so there is no distinction wrt where you put the files.

You can put them anywhere your little heart desires, so long as:

A. They are readable by the user running PHP (usually 'nobody')

B. They are in the "include_path" specified in php3.ini *OR* you provide the full path to them.

You'd have to have PHP4 to start with.

And I think the only Win Module is ISAPI, which is for IIS...

So you probably are SOL for Module-ness on Win98 with Apache for now.

I dunno if there are any docs about ISAPI yet...

1. The use running PHP will need write/execute priveledges on the root directory where you are making these dirs.

2. Read the comments I just contributed to mkdir and umask last night. One of them is slightly different, 'cuz I remembered to throw the word "not" in there. Both should make sense.

3. mkdir('/full/path/to/new/dir', 0775);

Hi,

I have a problem with creating a score for a stock market competition. I know I'm doing something wrong, but I can't find what... If someone has got any suggestions, please help me.

The problem is the following: I have created 15 comma seperated value-files (CSV) with Excel. From every file I have to get the same information from the same location. This isn't a problem. The information is for example 102.825,89 I have to sort all these values. I can do some kind of sorting, but he is only looking to the characters before the dot. So, if I have the values 102.825,89 and 102.654,00 he sorts them as they were both 102! I tried to multiply them with 1000 and them sort the value, but it doesn't work; it still doesn't recognize the numbers after the dot. I have included a part of the file that I am using.

If anyone has got any suggestions, please let me know them.

Thanx in advance,

Mike,

Have PHP construct your pages dynamically, but store the output as a string. Send your mail with this - "Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" in the header and your customer receives the page all nicely laid out. Personally, I'd rather send my customers their invoice, and not make them have to spend extra time retrieving their invoice - I'd rather they spent the time writing the cheque :)

eg. mail("$customer","Your invoice for $month","$html_invoice","From: accountscqweb.com.au\n\rReply-To: accountscqweb.com.au\n\rContent-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1\n\r");

Hope this helps Darryl

I'm really suprise (disappointed) that I am not getting any help from the Php list on this issue - I have seen many less qualified questions posted that actually get multiple responses.

I am having some problems with PHP extensions not being loaded.

The system: Windows98 Apache 1.3.9 (from the binary distro from the apache.org site) PHP4 beta (from the php site. This is NOT a beta problem, php3 behaves EXACTLY the same.)

I do not have a c++ compiler or I would compile my own as the next step of my troubleshooting.

I have read ALL the documentation, release notes and README files and have not yet heard of anyone having this problem.

I am able to serve pages from apache, I am able to pre-process embedded php with php built-in functions, but I am not able to use any functions that are included in any extensions. I get errors like:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mysql_pconnect() in common.inc on line 27

I have checked and double checked the php.ini file (as well as php3.ini when using ver. 3). Here are the salient lines:

;extension_dir = c:\progra~1\apache~1\apache\cgi-bin\php4 extension_dir = c:\program files\apache group\apache\cgi-bin\php4 ;extension_dir = c:\program files\apache group\apache\cgi-bin ;extension_dir = c:\php3 cgi_ext=php4 ;the reason for the different extension directories is to see if the computer ;was having difficulty accessing certain directories. Regardless of which is ;used, the behavior is the same. Even though there appears to be multiple ; copies of php in multiple directories, there is not. There are only .dll files ;in the other directories. The instructions for a win nt install mentioned the ;cgi_ext directive. again, it doesn't seem to do anything on this system. I had ;thought that maybe the wrong .ini file, or that no ini file was being read, but ;when I make changes to the extension_dir, it shows the changes in phpinfo().

;Windows Extensions extension=php3_m~1.dll extension=php3_m~2.dll extension=php3_m~3.dll extension=php3_m~4.dll extension=php_mysql.dll extension=php_nsmail.dll extension=php_calendar.dll extension=php_dbase.dll extension=php_filepro.dll extension=php_gd.dll extension=php_dbm.dll ;The reason for the first 4 listings is that this is the way that windows ;truncated they names of some of the dll's. I thought that I would try it, ;but it had no effect.

You can view my entire php.ini file at:

http://omnipost.com/php.ini.txt

The results of phpinfo() can be viewed at:

http://omnipost.com/test2.html

This installation is on a private intranet so I had to post a copy of the phpinfo() page on another server.

I don't know why it would matter, but the salient lines from my apache httpd.conf file are:

ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache/cgi-bin/" ScriptAlias /php/ "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache/cgi-bin/php4/"

# # "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache/cgi-bin" should be changed to whatever your ScriptAliased # CGI directory exists, if you have that configured. #

<Directory "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache/cgi-bin"> AllowOverride None Options None ExecCgi </Directory>

AddType application/x-httpd-php4 .php AddType application/x-httpd-php3 .php3 AddType application/x-httpd-php3 .phtml AddType application/x-httpd-php3-source .phps

Action application/x-httpd-php4 "/php/php.cgi"

You can view the entire httpd.conf at:

http://omnipost.com/httpd.conf.txt

Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I have done as much searching for answers as I know how and am now just finding references to documents I have already read. Thanks
