I got two arrays:
1) $allToys <-- contains an array of $toysID
2) $rmToys <-- contains an array of $toysID that is to be removed from
$allToys
What is the best way to compare the 2 arrays and then delete the matched
elements
from $allToys ?
Thank you!
attached mail follows:
Hello.
I have searched the archives for my problem now for a few days with no
greater luck.
So Please, You who have had the same problem help me on this one.
Ok, the thing is like this.
1. PHP3 ver. 3.0.14
2. Server PWS
3. OS, Win95
4. IE < 4.xx.xxx
5. I have run the "php_iis_reg.inf" file distributed with the PHP ZIP file.
6. Renamed the "php3.ini-dist" -> "php3.ini" and copied it to the
"C:\windows" directoy.
7. "extension_dir" pointing at the "php3_*.dll" files directory.
8. "doc_root" pointing at the directory that the PWS identifies as it's home
directory. Correct ?
When trying the activate a "*.php3" file through he browser I just recive
the error:
"PHP: Unable to parse the configuration file."
nothing less or more.
One thing that is a little bit strange, if I dbl click's a "*.php3" file in
the Win95 Explorer, the MS-DOS prompt is launched and the script is
processed through the MS-DOS prompt.
Do I have to make som changes to the autoexec.bat file ?
Do I have to copy the "php.exe" or the other "*.dll" files to some other
directory that the one's defined in the php3.ini ?
Shall the definitions for the paths be written like this in the php3.ini:
.....
...
extension_dir = "X:\TheDir"
;or
extension_dir = X:\TheDir
...
....
Any advise, and experienses on this would be appriciated.
Thanks, J

Hello,
following the installation instuctions to the letter something strange happened
while doing:
./configure --with-mysql=/usr/local --with-imap=/usr/local --with-apxs=/usr/local/newapache/bin/apxs
produced this message:
WARNING: Your /usr/local/newapache/bin/apxs script is most likely broken.
checking the php faq it says:
... and check for these lines:
my $CFG_CFLAGS_SHLIB = ' '; # substituted via Makefile.tmpl
my $CFG_LD_SHLIB = ' '; # substituted via Makefile.tmpl
my $CFG_LDFLAGS_SHLIB = ' '; # substituted via Makefile.tmpl
but the file apache produced from me was:
my $CFG_CFLAGS_SHLIB = q(); # substituted via Makefile.tmpl
my $CFG_LD_SHLIB = q(); # substituted via Makefile.tmpl
my $CFG_LDFLAGS_SHLIB = q(); # substituted via Makefile.tmpl
substituting the values as instructed I still get the same error.
Redhat 6.1 , linux 2.2.14 i386
P.s I also substituted the redhat specific stuff. no change.
All I raelly want to do is use versioning so I can run php3 and php4 concurrently.
If this can be done the old fashioned (which I love) way of editing the Configuration file
in the source directory please show me the way. Thanks.
I get the same error with php3 and php4, thus the cross post.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Im using Oracle 8.0.5 on a Linux box with php 4.03b, at this stage is still under development, but have no idea what the web license for Oracle for Linux cost? I have sent various mails to Oracle without any definite answer.
I might add that it works great.
Can anybody perhaps help out with Oracle costing?

I would recomend having a look at DBmaker, it has a limited trial license for for windows, and a free linux commercial use license for linux. They even supply a PHP module for three and four, plus a ready integrated full version of PHP if you don't already have it with the module allready built in, and RPM, SRPM, and TGZ source. I tried dbmaker for windows and found it very cool, have downloaded DBmaker for linux, but haven't fully got round to setting it up yet. it can be found at http://www.dbmaker.com Try it you might like it. It comes with quite a comprehensive set of manuals in PDF forms including an ansi sql manual. Carl Robson

I believe it will not be a good idea to leave all the info in one record.
It is not scalable.
If you want two tables, maybe you can create 2 tables 1) Company table --- select distinct all company information and create the table 2) Contact table --- select Company Name (or company_id) and contact info from the original table and use this info to create a new table.
The problem would be if the Company Name is spelled differently.
Then again, you might have to change other code and might not be worth it.

Muze has just released the first public version of Ariadne. Ariadne is a Web Application Framework. It is a lot like Zope, but not quite the same.
Ariadne is released under the Gnu General Public License. You can download it at http://www.muze.nl/software/ariadne/
Simply put, Ariadne stores and retrieves PHP objects from a database, MySQL only in this release. Ariadne does this by simulating a file system in the database on which it defines operations like 'ls','find','link', and 'get'. Each object can be retrieved by another object or through an url. Objects can create, delete and modify other objects through these and other operations.
Objects can have multiple views, or functions. These are different forms and layouts to represent and change the same underlying object. The object types shipped with this release use a template system to represent these different functions. All functions are mapped to a template, which gets included inside an object and can therefor use all functionality the object and Ariadne itself provide.
The objects and templates shipped provide a rich management system for a website. But the real power of Ariadne lies not in the easy online management of a website, but in it's fast and powerfull object manipulation and retrieval. It's very easy to build a complex dynamic website with multiple interaction object types and complex views. As an example a pretty complex calendar application is shipped with Ariadne. But you could also build a threaded message board, a comples multi-site news system or even a clickable map of a country, with different selectable categories of information mapped on it. The last two have been done already :)
Also built in is a complete user and rights (or grants) management system. You can create a new user, add it to different groups and change grants for users and groups on objects.
There are lots more possibilities but you'll have to see for yourself.

I had this same problem and found a couple of things to get around them : 1) As shown here, don't use normal constructors, have an initialise function instead (constructors play up a bit I found) 2) Upgrade to the latest apache/php3 - this resolved some stuff.
I basically now have a top level 'document' class which depending on the page required etc creates a relevant child class. You can 'include' files from within classes as and when needed which is good, but don't use 'require' within a class when pulling in only the .inc files that you want on the fly.
I do have $parent->child->function('param')working in this way after an 'interesting' learning curve. A little fudge I did was to use a global $database class pointer so that all object could just call database queries without stressing about class hierarchies.

Mark.

I have asked around plently, and heres what I've come up with.... I am first of all trying to do all this on freebsd 3.4 stable. I need to have apache installed with php, imapi, php4b3 (for now) mysql support, xml, openssl (mod_ssl). I have this page: http://www.sfu.ca/~yzhang/linux/modssl/index.html which actually goes into quite a bit of detail, however, its linux directed. Basically I have openssl and mod_ssl compiled and installed fine. It just wont process php pages, (yeah my mime types are all set up in httpd.conf) Can I add php support to apache after its been built and installed, without having to REBUILD it, or does anyone have any references to help with this problem?
At this point I'd be willing to try anythign =) I would really appreciate any help I can get, maybe even another tutorial of some sort, I dont know. Thanks again ahead of time...

I suppose we could all learn these proprietory closed source standards and invest our knowledge in a way that means we then have to enpass software license purchase costs to every customer for every piece of malfunctioning software we manage to get successfully "hanging together." And then go down the pub and tell everyone we're computer experts.
Personally, I'll stick with PHP/Linux/Apache ;-)

PHP is run on the server, when it deals with the page it only returns HTML to the client. It does no matter what they use to view or download the page it will only be HTML, the PHP code is processed and seen only on the server.

Yes this has been covered a few times.
As PHP is server side the user will never see your source code only the output.

When considering the huge security hole in IE5,5.01 and I think also 4, don't use .htaccess. Someone logs in uses and leaves your site and closes IE (reboots whatever), you go to machine after, go to same URL, hit cancel for authentication, go to another URL, then hit back. Voila! Better use database authentication.

Thanks again, but I'm still not sure this should be necessary as a full path name has already been given in the include statement, it shouldn't need to go looking for an include path. I tried your suggestion anyway, it made no difference. Any idea what else could be wrong?

Thanks Jason, that was indeed the problem, I didn't realise the dir and file had to have execute permission. And I'm still not sure why - the .inf file isn't being executed, only read. oh well...

Hey everyone,
I'm trying to install PHP on my Redhat Linux (6.1) machine without going for the RPM install. Mainly because I'm not familiar with RPM's.
I installed apache a few weeks back, in order to get that working...so now i knew that i had to recompile it to get php working....
I got as far as getting php to confgure with apache and mysql, and then typed in make make install
but after that i have to confgure apache too right ? so i type in : ./Configure --prefix=/usr/local/apache --activate-modules/php3/libphp3.a
in the src directory of apache. But it gives me a bad command '--prefix=/usr/local/apache'
so i can't progress any further :(
can someone please please please help me out ???
I already searched the list on the archive and i can't seem to find a similar problem __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! Messenger. http://im.yahoo.com

Hi,
I have a very strange problem.
I have a created PDF on disk and i wish to open it once created and push it to the user (of course opening acrobat) then delete the file. The psudo code (i did this at work today) looks like;
# Create PDF.. # # header("Content-type: application/pdf"); header("Content-disposition: inline ; filename=myfile.pdf"); readfile("/temp/myfile.pdf"); unlink("/temp/myfile.pdf");
The problem is if i use GET in the form that calls this page everything works fine. But with POST, IE4 just displays a blank HTML page. This appears true if i have any variables at all being posted or none.
If i try to use telnet to port 80 the returned info is nearly identical if i do a GET for myfile.pdf as apposed to to GETing the php file...
Has anybody seen this before? Does anybody know how to do a POST via a telnet session so i can find out what is happening? Any help with usinig POST would be appreciated.
mn
(PS: Im sure i could redirect with location headers.. but its not really what i want as it wil kill all security and i wont know when to delete the files.)

Hi, I'm trying to create a user defined session save handler in PHP4 as in the second example described on the session page at www.php.net. (http://www.php.net/manual/ref.session.php3).
My problem is that I can only get PHP to call "open" and "read" - "write" is never called. I cannot even produce the result given in the example (I get the open and read calls, but nothing further).
I am using PHP 4.0B3 on linux using Apache 1.3.9. Sessions works fine if I do not overwrite the session save handler.
I was wondering if this is a known problem or if anyone has a working example of a session save handler I could have a look at.

Hi,
I just can't use imap_reopen properly.
I open a mailbox, then use the imap_stream to reopen to another mailbox, but nothing get changed, the imap_stream is still original.
I notice that the parameter imap_stream of imap_reopen is type "string" in PHP3 function manual, but all other imap function's is type "int", is it correct?

I think you don't really need to reload the page, unless you want to build the second menu from a database query or something like that. If you know exactly which items you want in the second menu for each choice of the first one, you con use only Javascript to create the option objects in the second menu.
I don't remember the exact code but is something like: menu2name.options[someindex]=new(option); menu2name.options[someindex].value="somevalue"; menu2name.options[someindex].text="sometext";
something like that ...

I saw an example of this in a book. Don't have exact code, but this will give you an idea.
I believe you will need to reload the page and if an option for the first form menu was set, then query your database and get the options available for that option. Then let PHP fill in the next menu.
To fill in the form you can use this. For example to list the all the tables of a DB on a menu form, do this (PHP Programming pg250)
<FORM ACTION="mysql_test.php3" METHOD=POST> Please select the table you want to query:<BR><BR> <SELECT NAME=database SIZE=1> <? // and connect to Db //... $db_table = mysql_list_dbs();
for ($1=0; $i < mysql_num_rows($db_table); $i++) { echo("<OPTION>" . mysql_tablename($db_table, $i)); } ?> </SELECT><BR><BR>
This should help you get started and I am pretty sure, some similar commands exist for your query.

Could someone explain me that? and give me just ONE reason for breaking with all the UNIX standards? I simply can't believe it...
int mktime(int hour, int minute, int second, int month, int day, int year, int [is_dst]);
Warning: Note the strange order of arguments, which differs from the order of arguments in a regular UNIX mktime() call and which does not lend itself well to leaving out parameters from right to left (see below). It is a common error to mix these values up in a script.
I prefer not to count how many scripts I will have to change...

You'd probably better ask him. However, here's a guess:
MySQL does not support transactions. A transaction is essentially an "all or nothing" approach to updating a database: given a set of instructions, a transactional database can be instructed to not do the job halfway, as it were. That way, if the process is interrupted for some reason (say, another process is writing to the same record), the system can back out of the changes it already made, then try to do it again later.
According to the MySQL manual (section 5.3.4), "all integrity problems that transactions solve can be done with LOCK TABLES or atomic updates." Of course, there are plenty of people who would avoid MySQL entirely because of this, so take everything with a grain of salt.

I have been programming in php for a few months, mainly using mysql as the backend. I have never used the Lock Tables option in MySQL in any of my php programs. Now our C programmer is telling me that we need to use it.
Why?

Hi, I am wondering what is the best way to secure an almost entirely PHP3/html/Macromedia Flash 4 site running on Sun Solaris 2.7 ( tested on Redhat 6.1 ).
I have been reading some docs on the subject and they all come to the same conclusion...
2 ways...
1 - Do it with apache and a .htaccess and a .htpasswd file. this would give me basic login etc. 2 - Code it in php so it is fully customisable
Is there anyone out there with any samples / rescources / advice.
Thanks,

Thats what I always thought.. and I still hold it true.. For the most part i always read up. but, as my business partner keeps reminding me, not everybody has the library skills i/we do.. as a kid I was a librarian's aide, I read a lot and researched a lot.. it's very easy for me to know how to find the answer to my problem.. but sadly, in america especially, most people just don't have these skills.. The mailing lists are all about helping people while exchanging information to increase your own skills.. there's NO need to be an elitist like in the perl lists/groups/forums.. If you want elitism.. ask a semi-intelligent question after you've exhausted your search efforts in #Linux and watch it be ignored or flamed.. but then again.. as i sit on the phone listening to the jerk at the auto body shop saying "maybe tommorrow" for the 8th time in a row.. screw being nice.. i hate lazy people.

Hi,
I've got several lines of html that I need to assign to a variable. Conventional assignment is a bit of a pain in this case, because there are so many lines.
Perl offers a nice solution where you can use a <<END operator. (I think they call it "here documents")
EXAMPLE: $s = <<END; line1 line2 line3 END
In perl, this assigns everything up to END to $s.
Is there something similar in PHP ?
Thanks, Greg
attached mail follows:
Yea try this
Concatenenation Operator
$s = "line1"; $s .= "line2"; $s .= "line3";

Beyond this, check out eguru.com and elance.com.. There are tons of developers who go there for extra cash.. i'm sure you'll run into a php geek there.

Subject: [PHP3] MySQL / PHP Editors?
Does anyone know of a good editor for MySQL/PHP???
Thanks Steve

For Windoze, I use EditPlus 2.0. It comes with PHP syntax highlighting built in. And since the authors know php code usually comes with html in it, it also supports html syntax highlighting within php scripts at the same time. http://editplus.com/ Well worth the 30 bucks. It will keep working past the 30 days limit however... (nag-ware)
For *nix, I have found Nedit along with the php.pats pattern file to be a great choice. It doesn't come with php syntax highlighting built in, but it is very easy to import pattern files and there are tons of them already written for most all programming languages. I don't recall a url though, check freshmeat.net.
As for a MySQL "editor", I use phpMyAdmin available from phpwizard.net. I am running several mysql servers as well as my own local development environment, from a single web based interface. Blows away every other attempt I have seen at a dependable mysql gui. It's clean and very intuitive.
Hope this helps ya...

Hi, I am having a problem with ODBC and PHP4. I have a script that used to work fine with PHP3 that connects to an Oracle database using ODBC functions. I have just upgraded the system to use PHP4 and everything seems to work fine apart from this one script that uses ODBC. The line it falls over at is :
if ($conn = odbc_connect("whse","username","password")) { ...etc
this produces the following error :-
Warning: SQL error: [Oracle][ODBC Oracle Driver][Oracle OCI]ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name., SQL state S1000 in SQLConnect in MainPageBlocks/sv_lvl.php3 on line 31
I find this very odd because it was working very nicely before. I have checked php.ini which is pretty much the same as it was under PHP3 - I cannot see any problems there.
Can anyone help me?

I need to
Check username and pass against a database table. generate a valid session id if successful set new sessionid in a cookie add new sessionid to session table. fetch a user menu.
Is my logic bad here. I always run into "OOPS you have already sent information" when I'm trying to fetch the page. Can someone point me to an example similar to this.

1. you could use session-handling-functions either from php4 or phplib. 2. there mustn't been sent any character before any http-header.

Hi folks,
As most of you win32 guys may know, there was (or still is) a problem with php3 and the exec command. If your box is a NT with IIS2.0 it works perfectly, but with IIS4.0 it doesn't work. This has been discussed many times, but in fact I have no conclusions:
- Has it been fixed in 3.0.14 ? - Does it affect IIS 3.0 ? - Does it affect to IIS 5.0 in Win 2000 ? - Which is the reason of the bug ? Maybe a SP problem ?
Another question:
When someone executes a command through this statement (exec()), which is the privileges used ? In which user envoironment is php executed ?
THANK OYU IN ADVANCE.

OK, this isn't exactly a PHP question, but since so many folks seemed to be using homesite (as evidenced by the "editor" discucssion) I thought I'd post here and see if someone can help.
After making do with edit and vi, I finally took the plunge and installed HS4.5 on my W98 box. One of the things that really attracted me was the ability to have the server process the preview pane, but I'm having a little difficulty here.
I'm running Linux as the host with Apache and Samba, my home directory is mapped as drive W: on W98 and I've set up the server info in homesite correctly. The problem is that despite having a wide open umask (0) on the linux box directory, HS doesn't assign any permissions for non-owner/non-group access to it's temp files (hs~filename) that it uses for internal previews. I end up with 403 forbidden errors on the client and I see permission errors in the web log files (that's how I know it's configured property - it dereferences fine).
I tried setting the "file save" option to unix - that didn't help. I looked for a "force save" option like the one for external browsers, but couldn't find one.
I also tried tech support from Allaire - got a funny email telling me that my problem was beyond the scope of installation support. Oh well.
I also tried redoing the project file to not use my samba mappings and instead treated it as a ftp site, but I couldn't figure a way to handle the server mappings (FTP & RDS aren't available in the server processing area).
Anyone lick this problem?

Hello all. I've set up a server and I want to put php on it. However, I want to put a bunch of stuff in the binary - basically anything that I might ever want to use, and make a script for it, so I can do it again smoothly. For example: to install mysql support in php, you need to install mysql, which you get from www.mysql.org Is there a list, or can anyone send me such a list? I am really interested in: GD lib support ODBC support - so I can connect to access databases :-( XML support

Check the config.status file after you do a configure. It has all the options you typed in at the top. makes it easy to recompile when new versions of supporting software is released.

You don't say what platform you're on though I'm guessing some *nix.
You'd need the header and lib files from all the pieces you want. That could be a chore if you're making a "kitchen sink" install, not to mention version information for each of all pieces.
For instance GD; today, you DON'T want the current library cause it doesn't have GIF support anymore, you want 1.3x; I'm guessing you'd go insane trying to keep up with incremental changes in ALL the supported databases.
My experience is that php is pretty good at finding stuff that's already installed on your system and adding support. I think adding mcrypt to one install was the only thing I needed a make switch for - and that was because the client had installed it in a non-standard place.
I guess you could get slick using dpkg or ports under Debian/FreeBSD to go check for current versions; install/upgrade as necessary and then compile php - but that seems like a lot of thought/work for something that *I* wouldn't use all that often. I guess if you're doing lots and lots of installs maybe that would hit some work/reward ratio, but even then you're assuming an underlying OS/architecture to support.
Telling you to find the headers and libs is easy - implementing that generically for multi-platforms is a pretty tall order.
Hank
