Arathena,
I already do own the domain name abraxastech.com ,
however since it was purchased yesterday, it's not
there in the whois database.
Once it does get there, what do we have to do to get
the whatever
abraxastech.com ?
Where will the emails sent to this address be
received, and how can we set the "whatever" to our
wishes, for example, "sales
abraxastech.com" or
"faq
abraxastech.com" ?
Thankx a ton.
Much regards.

Do You Yahoo!?

attached mail follows:
You said you purchased the domain name - where is it (going
to be) pointing? At whose servers? When purchasing domain names,
you generally have to give the address of 2 name servers. These
servers will hold the information about which IP addresses
the domain name (and machine names) will point to. The name
servers also hold the 'mx' records (mail exchange). This tells
mailing programs looking up your domain where to send mail to.
It doesn't get down to the level of 'somebody
domain.com',
but just which machines to send ALL mail
domain.com to.
Once the mail gets to that machine (or those machines if you've
got a large mail server farm), the mail program local
to that machine (sendmail, exchange, notes, etc.) takes
over and decides how to route the mail to the final mailbox
based on whatever logic rules you define. If you'd like
more info on this, please contact me off list. Sendmail.org
might be a good place to try to read up on some of this as well,
or get the O'Reily 'bat book' ('sendmail' by Eric Allman).

Christopher,
It looks ok to me... try;
$whatever = "foobar"; if($whatever != ''){ $sql_whatever = "AND whatever = '$whatever'"; } $sql = " select * from ds_appt where ram_appt_disp_code = 'C' AND ram_appt_start_dtm >= TO_DATE('$start2','MM/DD/YYYYHH24MI') AND ram_appt_start_dtm <= TO_DATE('$end2','MM/DD/YYYYHH24MI') $sql_whatever order by ram_appt_start_dtm, ram_confirmation_nbr "; echo "<PRE>\n$sql\n</PRE>\n"; $get_appt = OCIParse($connection,$aql);
I like to build all my sql as a single variable to make it simpler. Some people even echo their SQL as html comments for checking. (EG: we do a lot of intranet work where people also have odbc connections to their DB's ... if they can see the SQL easily they can then paste it into excel and add that one extra column they want without having to call us.)
mmmm after looking at this i had to modify if($whaterver != ''){ to if($whatever != ''){ You probably dont need a Oracle 8.. or even a PHP 3 guru... a 3rd grade english teacher would probbaly suffice ;)
(BTW: I assume you can turn error levels on in PHP so you have to declare variables.. but probably like 1000's of others i've been working without it so it would make a mess of all my existing code... but this example does show why it should be done.)

I need some help with some if statements within the sql command using oracle 8. If I try something like,
if($whaterver != ''){ $sql_whatever = "AND whatever = '$whatever'"; }
then the sql statement looks like,
$get_appt = OCIParse($connection,"select * from ds_appt where ram_appt_disp_code = 'C' AND ram_appt_start_dtm >= TO_DATE('$start2','MM/DD/YYYYHH24MI') AND ram_appt_start_dtm <= TO_DATE('$end2','MM/DD/YYYYHH24MI') $sql_whatever order by ram_appt_start_dtm, ram_confirmation_nbr");
When I run it php page, it totally ignores the $sql_whatever in the OCIParse command. I have verified that there is something in the $whatever string.
Any clues on this? I have worked on this for 2 days and can't seem to figure it out.
Thanks

if($whaterver != ''){ ^^^ spelling mistake!!
Plus its better to use if (!empty($whatever)) which is true if $var=='' or does not exist.

Hi Lance!
If You are running under a UNIX environment, the answer is "cron". :-) This is a tool for scheduling administrative tasks at regular intervals. The easiest way to get info is to type "man crontab" for where and how to input tasks into the cron table. However, if You plan to use PHP, the best way would be to compile a standalone parser-binary. Otherwise I would like to rekommend using the built-in scripting capabilities of Your shell for simpler tasks or use PERL, which is suitable for both small and complex tasks. If You are on a Win32-platform, there might be a "system agent" (Windows 98)
which You can use for this purpose, or if You use NT there is a command tool named "at" which is a simple schedule-manager.

Well someone got the majority of it but under NT, if you have IE5 installed then go to My Computer and you will see Scheduled Tasks ala Win98. The Scheduler there is a helluva lot easier to use than DOS based AT commands... FWIW

Why use Perl instead of PHP for many tasks? Personally I use PHP as a standalone (just like Perl has to be a standalone) for complex scripting tasks - it allows me to leverage both my Web scripting language and my system shell programming leverage. When things get really hairy - C, bison, and yacc do the job much better than Perl or PHP (I could add modules to PHP, but then I end up with a maintenance headache. I'd rather leave that up to Sasha, Rasmus, Zeev, and the rest of the PHP gang! :^).
I've never liked Perl's syntax - but that's a personal thing, not my religion. I write and debug Perl for money. Your religion may vary.

Hi Mark.
I will not get into long discussion on this, since it does not belong here. ;-) The reason I mentioned PERL, is that it is (to my knowledge and experience) a very easy and powerful language when it comes to pattern-matching and regualar expressions, and it is easily available on most UNIX-systems as well as Win32-based systems. That´s all. By the way, do You really use C when it comes to system administration tasks? Must get tedious when major structual changes occours and the program needs to be recompiled...
Cheers, Henrik J.

Thanks for the adive Chris.
I'm actually not convinced about the M$ way but I have a hard time convincing the non believers that there is other ways forward.
I have been trying to set up a linux box at home for development. If I can get this working I will push for linux for testing/intranet at work.
My main downfall is that I'm not really up on the networking thing, so I have problems in getting the machines talking to each other. I seem to spend more time trying to figure this stuff out than doing my job. I know it will make it easier in the long run but I don't think my employer sees it like that at the moment. :-)
Anyway thanks again, just one more thing. The link to wine you gave me seems to go to, well, a wine site. Either this is a mistake or if you drink enough it feels like you're working on a windows box.
Thanks again Matt

After I had installed php 4.0.0, I get the message "X-Powered-by: PHP 4.0.0 Content-type: ...". I look for this message in recent mail, and I find that many people suggest to change some parameters in php.ini.
The first tip was to turn off "expose_php". I do it but I get again the message "content-type: what_you_write_in_default_mimetype".
I write a simple php script ( "<? phpinfo() ?>"), and I make some test. Without change any parameter in php.ini, I notice that if I use php 4.0.0 I get the message, if I use php 4 RC2, I don't get the message. There is a bug in the new build ?
I'm using Win98, Apache.

Try something like,
load data local infile 'invdata.dat' into table inventory fields terminated by ',' lines terminated by '\r'; (You may need to change the \r to a \n.)
Same the above in a file (invdata.in) and then use mysql -hserver -uuser -ppassword database < invdata.in
Here the data should be in the same directory that you run the mysql command from.
See the mysql manual for more specific details of the infile command.

Subject: MySQL update/insert from text file
Hi All,
I have a file, about 2500 lines, that is an inventory update file with a comma separated list in the format:
ITEM_NO,QUANTITY,ON_ORDER,BACKORDER_DATE
So the file might look like: PC1033,6,3, PC8347,0,4,2000-06-24
What I want to do is to update the inventory database with this information. I am currently reading in the file, and line by line updating the database, one query per line. So for 2500 lines, I am doing 2500 queries! Not the most efficient thing in the world...
Is there a way that I can do this in one query, or at least more efficiently? Or can I use PHP to generate a file that gets piped into mysql that is more direct?
It works now, and works well, I just want to see if I can speed it up and make it a lot better (and I want to know how to do it best).
Thanks,
Brian T. Allen

I've installed Apache 1.3.6 PHP 3 and MySQL 3.22 on my RedHat Linux 6.1 server I've installed Apache and MySQL using RPMs and compiled PHP as a module with MySQL support enabled.
I've also configured httpd.conf with "AddType application/x-httpd-php3 php3"
When I run my .php3 scripts, the browser does not give any output, instead if I do "View Source" from the browser, it shows me the entire PHP code along with HTML.
Is there any additional setting I have to do Please help me...

Try specifying ".php3" instead of just "php3" as extension: AddType application/x-httpd-php3 .php3 > When I run my .php3 scripts, the browser does not give any > output, instead if I > do "View Source" from the browser, it shows me the entire PHP > code along with HTML. > > Is there any additional setting I have to do > Please help me...
No, I don't think so.

You should free your statements to avoid getting a defunct Oracle process for every connection you make. As for commit, I've personally never ever committed anything from PHP, it seems to do it automatically. I'd welcome comments from other Oracle bods on this subject, however.

that's not the solution. please add --enable-sigchild in php4 and the defuncs will go away.

the current PHP 3 and PHP 4 cvs will rollback any uncommited stuff before the connection is closed. (the current behaviour is/was undefined!).

My mistake. It's the OCILogoff() call which prevents the defunct processes. Thanks for this tip though.

Hmm - does this mean I have go through all my code and put OCICommit() calls in there before using the next new version of PHP4? :(

i doubt it. i did some digging (8.1.6 on linux) and without the --enable-sigchild i would always get defuncs. (except for persistent connections - obviously)

no, OCIExecute($s) will always do COMMIT_ON_SUCCESS.
only if you you use OCIExecute($s,OCI_DEFAULT) you will have to either commit or rollback at the end of your script.
the old behaviour was undefined -but- would commit in most cases (connection would be reused by the httpd, some other page would call OCIExecute($s) on that very connection and thereby commit your stuff for you).
that means that even if you had a fatal error in your page you half-open transaction would be committed by somebody else eventually. that was a bug, and that is fixed.
i don't even think we should consider making this user-settable via an .ini flag (oci8.commit_on_close = On|Off).
even though i think it's a bad idea i'm open to discuss this...

Hi David,
There are number of reasons your script isn't working.
Firstly, <INPUT> elements need to be in a <FORM>. This way the information from the buttons get sent to the form handling script specified in the ACTION attribute of the form tag.
For example,
<?php echo "<form action=\"my_form_handling_script.php3\" method=POST>"; echo "<input type=\"submit\" name=\"submit\" value=\"Option 1\">"; echo "<input type=\"submit\" name=\"submit\" value=\"Option 2\">"; echo "</form>"; ?>
would be the conventional way of doing it. Note that the form elements now have names as well.
Secondly, your switch statement needs to be in the form handling script. PHP automatically makes form variables available in the script regardless of whether you use the GET or the POST method provided you give the form elements names. The $submit variable in your switch statement is set as a result of giving the buttons the name "submit" rather than the fact that it is a submit button.
<?php $myurl1="http://linuxsrv/addit.php3"; $myurl2="http://linuxsrv/view.php3";
switch ($submit) { case "Option 1": header("Location: $myurl1"); break; case "Option 2": header("Location: $myurl2"); break; } ?>
Lastly, you must ensure that when you use the header function there is no output before it. It must be the first output into the page ie. before any HTML appears.
I haven't tried the above code myself but I'm pretty sure it should work now.
Of course it all begs the question as to why you are not just using plain old hypertext links? Anyway, that's probably none of my business :) Hope this helped.

Hi,
You will need to specify a NAME attribute if you want a button to contribute to a name/value pair to the submitted data. echo "<input type=\"submit\" value=\"Option 1\" name="option">"; And then the change switch ($submit) to switch($option). I also assume you are encapsulating the input in a form and posting it to a new webpage.

Ahh, but are you sure they'd want to employ someone who has trouble sending subscribe requests to the right address? (a la freebsd-questions)

Hi,
I have PHP scripts that run when I click a link in my documents but the result shown are the cached results from earlier visits.
So the script is not running the query againit is simply showing the cahed page again.
I have tried to fix this with the use of: <meta name="Expires" content="Mon, 01 Jan 1990 00:00:01 GMT"> but that seems to have no affect.
Can anyone provide a solution?
Many thanks,
Sean Browne.

Try :

Hi PHP'ers
I'm trying to find an efficient way from knowing the name of a table to getting the field names and types into an array. Doesn't matter if it's 2 arrays eg. $name[x]; $type[x];
or 1 array eg
$info[x][0]; // Name $info[x][1]; // Type
Using 3.0.16, I'm getting nothing from using mysql_list_fields although mysql_num_fields($database_result) gives me a positive integer from the result.
Any known bugs?
$database_result = mysql_list_fields("dbname","table",$database_link); while($row = mysql_fetch_row($database_result)) { print($row[0]); }
$database_link is valid and sprinkling mysql_error() around reveals no errors. Anyone got the working code?
Thanks, Mark.

Hi Mark,
This is pretty crude, but might give you an idea.
<?php
$intfo = array(); $link = mysql_pconnect(....) or die (...); $result = mysql_list_fields ("db", "table") or die(...); $num_fields = mysql_num_fields($result);
reset($info); for($i=0: $i < $num_fields; $i++) { $info[$i] = mysql_field_name($result, $i), mysql_field_type ($result,$i)); }
# And to see if it works. Should probably throw in an is_array # somewhere around here.
while (list ($key) = each($info)) { while (list (, $val) = each($info["$key"])) { print "$val "; } print "<BR>\n"; }
# Or, what's actually easier to see, for me at least. # # for($i=0; $i < $num_fields; $i++) { # print $info[$i][0] . ": "; # print $info[$i][1] . "<BR>\n"; # }
mysql_free_result($result); ?>

From here, all you have to do is to make a cicle and put the results on the drop down menu.

Not to beat a dead horse too much here, but simply having IE5 doesn't give you the task scheduler. If some of you are trying to get task scheduler under NT, but can't seem to find it or get it - you're not crazy. I tore my hair out for weeks trying to resolve this. The simple answer is - you can't. I had task scheduler running under NT4 with IE4, and it was pretty cool. If you have IE4, then install task scheduler (as some addon) then go to IE5, it's there, but if you're already in IE5, and don't have it, you will have problems.

Hi.
This isn't strictly PHP related so try and reply directly to me, thanks.
I'd like for Apache to automatically redirect to a PHP script whenever someone tries to view a GIF or JPEG image. Lets say that there's a link on the site like http://www.mysite.com/martin/images/mycat.jpg. If someone clicks on this link I'd like for Apache to redirect to a script that automatically takes the URL as a parameter and displays the image.
I've been looking through some of Apaches directives but I'm not good enough with Apache to make heads or tails out of it. Is it doable at all? I got the PHP script part down pat but I have no clue on how to get Apache to call on the script.
Anyone?

Why don't you just make your image link the php script itself. It would be a call like so:
<img src="mycat.php?image=piccy.jpg">
in the script would be like:
if(!isset($image)) $image="error_noimg.jpg"; $imagepath="/images/"; $image=$imagepath.$image; header("Content-type: image/jpeg"); if(file_exists($image)) readfile($image); else{ error_log("Missing Image"); readfile($imagepath."error_invalid.jpg"); }

I downloaded jEdit yesterday for my Mac (G3 350, OS 9). It's not as nice as Simple Edit on my PC, but it's better than BBedit, imo -- at least for the languages it supports and BBedit doesn't. So if you haven't tried it yet, I'd suggest downloading it:
You will need the Swing Java libraries and MRJ SDK 2.2, so download those first. Make sure you follow the Mac bindery instructions closely.

Hello,
I just installed php4 on nt4 iis4.
In the php.ini I made sure that the extension_dir = c:\php4 -- that is where I installed and the extension=php_ldap.dll is uncommented.
When ever I run my script I get:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: ldap_connect() in e:\wwwroot\ldapm20.php on line 61
Wich makes it sound like it is not using the LDAP extension, any Ideas?

Hi there!
we are on the way to make our shopping system portable several db servers. We successfuly compiled the iodbc support into PHP and connected Progress 8.3b (LINUX Version) with PHP. But it seems that there are some differences between the Openlink ODBC prompt and the PHP ODBC Coding using the same SQL query.
select * from TABLE oder by FIELDNAME
works fine using odbctest from the terminal. But with PHP we get:
Warning: SQL error: [OpenLink][ODBC][Driver]Syntax error or access, SQL state 37000 in SQLExecDirect in filename.php on line 409
It seems to be a PHP bug?! Does anybody know how to fix?
Cheers, Lars

Wow, you got Progress to work with PHP? I fought that battle for over a year & finally gave up (though I did have it partially working at various points).

Looking at your query, the first question I have is did you cut & paste it from the PHP script into your email? If so, you have a typo - it should be "order by" not "oder by".
Actually, that looks like you're just showing a generic example. Why don't you post the actual query string?

Are you sure this shouldn't be
select * from TABLE order by FIELDNAME

Oh sorry - the typo appeared only in my mail - I did not cut'n paste from the PHP I am sure it does not come from a type in the script.

$hst_query = "select * from $TBL_PRODUCER order by $PRD_PRODUCER";
Thanks in advance.
