Ok, so I am going to try this one, Jason Pruim, let's check how it works
... :p
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
In my whois web-app, when a EU doamin is queried, whois.pl perl script
is lunched and I got the right result to my PHP script I the result is
shown at the web.
If I do the query to a ES domain, other whois.pl script is lunched, but
passthru doesn't execute it.
Both scripts are almost the same, they are in the same file structure,
same machine, same permissions...
The most strange is that I logged the command petition and If I copy and
paste exaclty the same that is passed to passthru, the command for the
whois to ESNIC is executed in the command line and shows the result.
Collegues told me to check the ENV, permissions, and so on, I did with
no results, also, the other perl script that is almost the same is
executed, so I feel very very lost.
Three files attached:
whois_es.pl -> perl script to query whois in ESNIC
whois_eu.pl -> perl script to query whois in EURID
container.php -> intermediate page where the commands are build and
passthru is executed.
Thank you very much for any hint. I feel lost almost one week with this BUG.

Have you tried to use a program to compare the files? Make sure that
only the necessary lines are different?

Is there any particular reason you are using different perl scripts
instead of a simple whois script for all of them?
Also... the only attachment was your logo :)

First off, I don't think browsers support sending form data via PUT
(unless you use the XmlHTTPRequest calls usually used for AJAX
requests), so regardless of whether you specify method="put" in your
form tag, the request is still sent via GET. I suspect that basically
the browsers say that if the attribute equals "post" then send via
POST; otherwise send via GET. As I understand it, the PUT method is
for sending a document to be stored at the requested URI. As such, a
PHP script couldn't really be handling a PUT request because if the
URI for the script exists, the content in the PUT request should
replace the content of the URI. (I guess technically you might be able
to swing it through something with mod_rewrite where a PHP script
could handle the logic of storing (PUT) or retrieving (GET) the
document.)
http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec9.html#sec9.6
"The fundamental difference between the POST and PUT requests is
reflected in the different meaning of the Request-URI. The URI in a
POST request identifies the resource that will handle the enclosed
entity. That resource might be a data-accepting process, a gateway to
some other protocol, or a separate entity that accepts annotations. In
contrast, the URI in a PUT request identifies the entity enclosed with
the request -- the user agent knows what URI is intended and the
server MUST NOT attempt to apply the request to some other resource.
If the server desires that the request be applied to a different URI,
it MUST send a 301 (Moved Permanently) response; the user agent MAY
then make its own decision regarding whether or not to redirect the
request."
Secondly, there isn't a $_PUT superglobal in PHP.

It is the same answer, you have to use an SMS gateway. Using the above
is an additional layer or two.
attached mail follows:
[snip]
Do these gateways get paid? I can send a text message to phonenumber
vtext.com using sendmail. So it appears Verizon is just charging my phone's account.
Is that the case with the 3d party gateways?
[/snip]
As is the case with everything telecom someone is going to make money off of it. The subscriber pays for sending and receiving texts with all carriers, if not explicitly as part of their monthly plan. Gateways are but one "hop" in the message chain.
attached mail follows:
[snip]
Do you have any experience with any of 3d party gateways?
[/snip]
No, we own our own gateway

If you send more than a few through any of those, you'll start having
your messages not get through.

Those are just there for the convenience of normal users who send a
text or two without having an SMS phone.
If you want any kind of volume, you pay a gateway.
Or you could invest a few billion and build your own. :-)

This means you tried to echo/print or embed into a string some kind of
php built-in Object, or some on-the-fly object you created.

Gauge Diameter (in): 5 in.
Gauge Diameter (mm): 127.00mm

I want the array to end up like this
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
$data['Gauge Style'] = Auto Meter Pro-Comp
$data['Tachometer Usage'] = Standard
$data['Gauge Series'] = 0-11,000 rpm
I know I can use explode on on set of data... but up do you do it line by line?

You could, perhaps, hack your MTA to notify something somewhere that
PHP can check...
But it's really out of PHP's hands at this point.
If you put a letter in a mailbox, and the USPS fails to deliver it, do
you really expect to get notified?

If you're in the US (Hence the USPS) and you put first class postage
on it and include your return address then yes since it's built in if
the letter is not deliverable as addressed. If it's part of a
presorted mailing (not first class) then you have to pay additional
fees for it to be returned and specifically request it by adding
"Address Service requested" or "Return service requested"
But none of that has a lick of salt to do with PHP just throwing out
my knowledge since that what I do in my day job :)

You're a mail carrier in your day job? That explains some things :-)
What are you doing on the computer while you're supposed to be
delivering mail?

Go to my website and educate your self :P I process presorted mailings
for companies... Something the uninformed call "Junk Mail" but in the
industry it's called "Improperly targeted direct mail" :)

Apparently, you live in an area where USPS doesn't lose/mis-deliver
mail routinely... :-v

Anyone else notice that his ID looked Wesley Snipes?
At least we know where his money came from! ;)
attached mail follows:
i am planning to integrate chat application on my website.
the idea is to make online user on my website to chat to each other.
it is using PHP5+jQuery, i want it to be as light as possible. I am not sure
about the database to use, but i have 3 options.. file based, sqlite3 or
mysql5.
i am thinking to use sqlite3 because it is fast but afraid it cannot handle
many user
request (i remember reading it is not so good for multiple user). It is also
possible to use
memory based storage /dev/shm (in debian based, i read somewhere - never
tried yet)
another issue is how to make it light. The chat script should refresh
every 200ms to get the best result or even 1 second still bring quite a
load to the web server.
anyone ever run a web based application?
or any chat based api i can use out there to save server resource?
