Local mail being duplicated

[I have a nagging feeling this has already been discussed on the list,
but I can't find it in my archive].

We're seeing repeated deliveries of the same e-mail when one or more
recipients on a multi-recipient alias are broken.

For example, if the following appeared in aliases:

   staff: joe, fred

And fred's mailbox had the wrong permissions, then joe would get
another copy of the e-mail every time delivery was attempted.

I suspect the work around is to use the virtual file, rather than
aliases, for everything but program aliases. Unfortunately we still
have a couple of sendmail machines sharing the same aliases file,
and this would break them.

It's starting to drive me batty - we have around 250 people on our
"staff" alias now, and the chance of one of them breaking their e-mail
is rising. I'd imagine anybody in a large company is aware what happens
when someone posts to "all staff", then someone replies, then everybody
replies, etc, etc. Having the e-mail's repeat makes it much worse. 8-(
