We've been seeing this too, and, as you say, I don't think it's
mailtool (I'm reasonably sure almost nobody uses it or dtmail - most
of our users are using pop, and the error certainly appears for them).
I wondered if the timeouts on the lock retries weren't a little too
tight - deliver_lock_delay is set to 1 second by default (yes?), with 5
retries. I bumped this to 2 seconds by 5, but it hasn't helped.
I'd try the sun_mailtool_compatibility flag, but I'm worried that
someone has built their favourite mail program without .lock support
(all too common).
