The linux ABI is 16-bit uid/gid centric. Chris Wing
<wingc
engin.umich.edu> has patches to support 32-bit uid/git types
and patched glibc to work with this (ie. assuming glibc2 then you can
patch kernel, then patch glibc and most things will work as they did
before).

(btw -- I beleive Chris is from the University of Michigan and hit
