This, as many others before it, has been an interesting thread.
Must admit I find the logic of dispensing with mydestination and
simply relying on the transport map clean and tidy. If
mydestination is dropped, perhaps Postfix could issue a warning upon
startup if it did not find a transport entry relating to the local
machine, especially if there is one for the domain.
