I tell a lie. No "postfix reload" whatsoever. Neither in my crontab nor in
my /etc/postfix/Makefile.
I have ECC memory, so there should have been memory errors involved. Perhaps
it was just one of those freak incidents. Time to update to 19991231, I guess.

IMHO postfix-20000101 would have been so much cooler...
