but only if they have a static IP. if they have a dynamically allocated
IP then ETRN either doesn't work at all or (in the case where they have
some kind of dynamic DNS setup) is unreliable.
smtp is not the right protocol for delivering mail to dialup sites with
dynamic IP addresses. uucp is a much better choice (it was designed for
mail delivery to dialups) - but it will be almost impossible to get NT
admins to even think about using it.
actually, it is possible to make it more reliable (but still not 100%
reliable) if you (their ISP) run a dynamic dns service for them and set
it up to monitor the radius logs, changing the A records for particular
clients when they log in or log out. you'll need a radius daemon which
logs the IP address that is allocated to users when they login - most
only log the IP address in the Stop record when they log out. note that
you don't want to delete the A record when they logout - instead, you
want to change the A to an unreachable address...allocate an unused IP
on your local network.
this seems like a lot of trouble to take, just to provide a highly
unreliable service for those who are too lazy or ignorant to use the
right tool for the job.
