Remember to allow core dumps before looking out for core dumps.

Some systems come with core dumps disabled for root or disabled for all
users.

See ulimit(2) and your shell's documentation. Look for "ulimit" for
pdksh, ksh, sh, zsh and bash, and "limit" for csh and tcsh. (Checked
with NetBSD's csh, Solaris's ksh, rest with Linux).
